Today I have a card to share-posted after my rambling!
What an exhausting night we had. I was up almost 24 hours. It’s amazing when MOMMY ENERGY kicks in.
Yesterday Alexa left the house at 5pm to go to her biological father’s house. His wife picked her up, and they went to the Outback for dinner. Quickly after eatting Alexa got white as a ghost, and said she needed to lay down, and wanted a “bucket”. Basically she felt nauseous. Kim felt her head and she was burning up! So she took her to their house where she went STRAIGHT to bed. His wife called me at 9pm to tell me what was up. Me, knowing how quick Alexa goes from her usual self, to CRASHING said we needed to get her to our area hospital.
They wanted to just keep her there and let her sleep, but I can’t have my “baby” be sick and NOT with me. I would be a wreak, and I know her too well to know this is “nothing”.
They live over a hour away-and honestly the hospitals in that area are HORRIBLE! I spent many years for HOURS in their ER waiting rooms with Alexa having a 104 fever as a BABY! Anyway, I NEEDED her with me, and in a place that knows her, and her history! She can LOOK “OK” but be REALLY sick. It’s really strange.
Anyway-we get to the ER, which was full :C I was a bit nervous we’d get stuck there for a while. I had brought Alexa a face mask too, so SHE wouldn’t pick up anything more than she had.
Her father got there before me, and began filling stuff out. I put in HUGE letters CANCER REMISSION. That is a huge RED FLAG that we shouldn’t be stuck in the ER any longer than necessary! THANKFULLY maybe 5 minutes later we were in the back. Alexa was as white as sheet. Overall though she didn’t look THAT bad. Again that is a weird thing with her.
Anyway, I have to say I had the most AMAZING group of people treating her. I can’t even count the number of ER visits and hospitalizations we have had in our 10 years, but these people-EVERY SINGLE ONE was so amazing. They were so nice, efficient and just genuinely caring. They treated Alexa so well too. To the point where I am actually going to write a letter on each and every person we had dealings with. To have such a amazing TEAM when your child is sick, means so much to me.
What I liked most was that they actually LISTENED to me and my take on her! Plus there is a LOT to take in. She has had a LOT go on in her 10 years, including showing up at an ER seemingly sick but not too bad, only to get progressively worse and sent by Ambulance to a larger hospital.
They thought she “sounded” OK in her lungs. I told them that she can sound OK, but will often have a creeping pneumonia. Well we were sent right to xray! Low and behold, yes! We have pneumonia in BOTH lungs! The doctor was shocked but said “You know her best! You’ve been through a lot with her, so who am I to say otherwise, and you were right. I never would have said she had pneumonia, and by tomorrow we’d most likely be in BIG trouble.” It is NOT often you meet doctors who are willing to actually HEAR you, without a fight, or second guessing you. And I was right ! LOL! Sadly on top of that Alexa also has the Flu. Not good. Now she is on Tamiful and Zithromax. After not getting home till almost 5am, I had to bring her back to the doctors at 10am.
She already had her flu shot too, about 2-3 weeks ago.
We got Noah and Amber the H1N1, but obviously Alexa can’t get that, yet. She will also need her pneumovax.
Anyway, I’m just sharing. I’m a little freaked with the whole FLU dangers and whatnot, but am just trusting God will watch over her and the rest of our family. Its a bit scary.
On another note…..thought I’d share a recent card I made, that makes me happy! LOL! I need happy. I decided that I’m going to send this to the team at the hospital, that made my night nothing but pleasant, considering the circumstances!
A gift for you
I think this image is just beyond sweet.I am in LOVE with the Gillian Robertsline from Stampavie. Each one is adorable, but THIS one is my favorite, so far. Maybe because it reminds me of something I bought recently. I purchased a stuffed Dog (I bought like 5!) named Colby, from KAY Jewelers. (It inspired my entire design) Part of the proceeds ($7 to be exact) from EVERY sale benefit St. Jude Children’s Cancer Research!! So if there is a KAY near you, you can buy the SUPER cute Colby dog too, for a good cause! I have to say I was VERY disappointed to NOT see this promotion on their site, and the ONLY thing I could find to share, that showed you the dog and the promotion was THIS!
Doesn’t Colby look just like this bear? I know! Colby is a dog, but to me they look alike 😀 This image is Bear & Robin. I colored him with my Copic markers. If you don’t own these yet…WHY?! I love my Copic’s. Use them EVERYDAY! LOVE. I honestly can’t even consider coloring with anything else. I totally feel they are worth every EXPENSIVE penny spent 😀 I also used the colorless blender to get my hat pattern. I added a pom pom, and made the hat cuff 3D as is the bird. You cannot see it but the “snow” on the ground is a really pretty glitter I got in the KIDS section at Michael’s! DON’T buy those LITTLE tubes of glitter in the stamp/scrapbook section of your craft store! They are overpriced! Go to check out the KID craft section FIRST, where you get a HUGE bottle, at about the same cost (sometimes cheaper) as a TINY bottle. I swear it’s the SAME stuff.
I also airbrushed my sky. Then I dotted my background with my Singlo white gel pen. I had this silver snowflake “table” confetti from Target last year, and it makes the BEST card accents!! I can’t recall who makes the paper :C Sorry.
Well that is all for me. Sorry I was quite long winded.YIKES! LOL!
Thanks for hanging in. In the meantime I hope you and your family are happy & healthy during this terrible season of germs!

So sorry to hear she has pneumonia and the flu. The flu just seems so early this year and more contagious. But it is certainly a big and scary thing when your child has such a history. Glad you had good care in the ER and a Dr who listened to mom. Hope the meds kick in quickly. Great card also, love the bear.
Wow! so sorry to hear about Alexa. I hope she feels better. I had a bad experience with a hospital recently. My daughter got sick last week starting Saturday night – I could not get the fever down Sunday (102) and called the nurse hotline at the hospital. They told me not to bring her in. She broke the fever but she’s been feeling icky all week with a bad cough. In speaking with my sister-in-law Thursday (works in a hospital) I should have taken her in because she probably has (had) the swine flu! I’m so irritated that she has to suffer through this now. I should have just taken her in last week. Anyway – I understand frustration when they won’t listen to you. I hope she feels better soon! Best of luck and hope you get some sleep.
Awww SUCH a cute card!! Love it 😀 And I’ll be keeping you and your family in my prayers! May He grant her a swift recovery!!
Three cheers for mothers instincts, a doctor who listens and a great hospital. I hope Alexa is back on her feet quickly!
Lauren,
Hoping that Alexa starts to feel better soon. I know all too well what it is like to be in that ER and am so glad that you had a good experience. Sending up a prayer that she in on the mend quickly and feeling good soon!

Keeping my fingers crossed for your little girl and wishing you all the best! Greeting from Slovenia, Natasa
Glad to hear you met a doctor who knows Mummy knows best and is not afraid to say so. Wishing Alexa a speedy recovery. And what a cute card you have made above. TFS
I just loved reading about your positive ED experience. I’m a nures and the thank you letters/cards are far and few between. It sounds like the staff was amazing, including the Dr. The smart health care worker does listen to the mom! Noone knows your child better than you do for sure. Anyway, your letters will make those people’s days and I know will be so appreciated! And so glad she got diagnosed and treated in a timely manner:)
lauren, i’m so sorry to hear alexa is so sick. i’ll keep you both in my prayers and hope that she’s feeling like herself again soon! try to get some rest sweetie!

PS Cute card too!
OMG! I am so glad Alexa got diagnosed so fast, thanks to you!!! Sending prayes her way, hugs to you and all your family.
Wow, sounds like she is related to my family! Get some rest, Mary
Prayers for Alexa and your whole family. So good that you pay attention, know her well, and are willing to share (and fight, if necessary) in what can be intimidating situations. Keep us updated when you can.
Oh dear, so sorry to hear that Alexa is sick, I hope that she makes a speedy recovery. I’ll be praying for her, you have all been through so much. Well done for standing your ground and well done to the hospital staff who listened and cared. I too have recently found your blog and have been moved to tears by Alexa’a story. She is an amazing beautiful girl and most definately a fighter. Her mother too is amazing, not only are you super talented but also the most wonderful mother. I’m sure I’ll be visiting everyday, you inspire me no end!

YIKES. Glad that you, as usual, fought for her and she’s getting the meds she needs. OY! Big {{HUGS}} to you and Alexa too — hope you all stay healthy after this passes.
Adorable card too, I must say — very sweet and I ♥ the papers you used.
Hope you are able to get some rest tonight…
Lauren, I read your blog almost every day but rarely comment. Today I have to tell you…you never cease to amaze me!! Alexa is so very lucky to have you as her Mom. Some people have angels in heaven watching over them, but she has you right here on earth. I’ll be praying that she gets better fast.
Lauren, I have to say that you are a Super Woman!
It’s amazing how you take care of everything! I too will pray that Alexa gets better fast!
Take care and God bless you!
Odette
Sending prayers and hugs for Alexa for a speedy recovery darling! Yeah I am fighting my own germs wars here w/my 3 babies and myself double ear infections, asthma, colds for the kids and Back spasms and one heck of a bad cough for me.. ((HUGS)) for you darling! Remember to squeeze in some rest yourself I know easier said then done but you need it as well!
Lauren,
I’m sorry to hear about Alexa’s illness but it’s so great that you knew just what to look for and you had great medical treatment. My first and only DD is 2 and 1/2 now and she’s only really been sick once before now and I was a nervous wreck so I can’t even imagine what you’ve been through. My little one has a “cold” according to the pediatricians but she has a fever with it and now it’s turned into a productive cough. Makes me worry all day that it’s going to turn into worse. Honestly, being a mother has put more worry lines on my face in 2 years that my job does! LOL!!! Love you to you and your family.
So sorry to hear about Alexa. I’m glad she’s on the mend. Thank goodness for mommy intuition! It is really scary right now with all the flu information that is buzzing around. It makes you want to lock up your kids in plastic bubbles! I love your card and I know the hospital employees will too! Take care!
Will pray for Alexa. Glad the docs listened to you. You’re a terrific Mommy.
I am so glad that Alexa got to the hospital quickly and was well taken care of. After reading your blog daily, I feel like I know you even though we have never met. I will be praying for her quick recovery. Get some rest before you are ill too! I hope you and your whole family are well soon. 🙂
My heart goes out to you. I will pray that Alexa gets well and no one else gets sick. How amazing to have medical staff listen too you.
I hope Alexa feels better soon! My sons and I had the flu last week and we felt horrible, so I hope that she gets a mild case.
I’m glad that you also encountered great doctors in the ER, and I think that it is a great idea to let them know it.
Thank goodness you were there – and that you were blessed with medical staff that actually LISTENED to you, rather than let their egos get in the way of listening to the experience of someone who knew her medical history best. I hope she is feeling better soon! Colby IS cute! I will have to check out our Kay’s for him here. Your card is adorable. i wish you strength and comfort as Alexa recovers my friend.
Meredith
One thing I always tell people is to not underestimate us moms..we KNOW our kids! I’m so glad you were able to get her there and that they listened to you.
Hugs and hope she heals quickly.
Love your card, oh so cute!
Keeping you and Alexa in my prayers for a speedy recovery.
Thank goodness the doctor listened to you, you don’t see or hear of that very often. Love your card and will be stopping by our local Kay’s to pick up a Colby or two. This cause is very near and dear to my heart as a mother of a 3 yr survior. May god bless you and watch over your family.
Hugs to you and Alexa xxxxxOOOOOOxxxxxx
Remember you need your rest too!
What stress! I hope Alexa is feeling better very soon – must have been tough on you all but thank goodness that Doctor listened. Take care and get some rest
Hi Lauren,
I am sorry you had to go through all this and I am sorry that Alexa is sick. Pneumonia is awful, I remember when I had it as a kid and I just spent days crying. I hope the promise of Halloween keeps her spirits up and looking forward to some fun really soon.
The most heartfelt of get well wishes to Alexa,
Suzanne
Praying for all of you
Lauren, It is so great that you insisted that Alexa get to the hospital! You surely know your daughter. So glad you have a Dr. that listened, God had it all under control. We have a wonderful dr here in Mexico who is top notch and is right on with his diagnosis and He listens!!
Love the card. So cute. No Kay jewelers here though or I would definately get a Cody to help St. Jude’s.
Be blessed my friend, God is watching over you and your family and He has very special plans for Alexa!
Blessings, now get some sleep!!!
Laruen,
You are an amazing woman! Hope Alexa is feeling better and that you get a bit of rest! Prayers,
Thank goodness us mothers have good instincts. I’m sorry that Alexa is quite ill and I pray that she will have a speedy recovery. Hopefully the rest of you will stay healthy. I hope you can rest up this week. I am so glad that you got the quality care that you and Alexa deserved at the hospital. All of you have been blessed.
By the way, your card is so adorable and sweet !!
Lauren,
I am so sorry to hear about Alexa’s illness – I pray she will have a quick recovery and that you will find the energy and strength to get you and your family through this.
And in this midst of this you are still posting cards- many thanks.
The bear card is so sweet!
Oh Lauren I am so sorry to hear this. But you go mom, good thing you know her well! I do hope that she is feeling better and has a super quick recovery. Poor thing. Hopefully the flu does not spread in the house.
All the best and big hugs!
Oh girl! I am praying for Alexa. Poor baby! I’m so glad you are the mom who speaks up on your baby’s behalf. If you have learned anything over the years, the ability to do that is probably one of the most beneficial lessons. Thank God for your keen instincts and sensible reaction (telling them to drive her to the ER and meeting them there). Alexa is a lucky little lady to have a mommy like you ;]
What a sweet gesture to send the team at the hospital a card and possibly letters to each member. I’m sure you are aware that it’s rare when patients or family members take the time to recognize the pleasant visits, whereas they sure do act quickly on reporting a bad visit!
Thanks for sharing your story and your sweet card (it’s ADORABLE).
Best wishes for a quick recovery for Alexa and God’s blessings on you for being such a loving and caring mother. I’m sure your efforts to thank the staff will not go unnoticed. It may make a huge difference in someone elses ER visit.
Love the bear card and once again you have me in envy of your talent and resourcefulness for embellishments.
(((Lauren & Alexa))) So sorry to hear Alexa is sick. I’m so glad you trusted your mommy’s intuition to take her to the ER. That is great that the staff was so wonderful with her. I hope Alexa gets better quickly!
*HUGS & PRAYERS* I’ve been disinfecting everything here, but unfortunaltey, I know the flu could still creep in…
[…] One minute she's fine, the next, not so much…. – My Time, My … […]
(((hugs))) to you and Alexa I hope she gets better soon.
Lauren, I have almost exactly the same situation. My oldest daughter is not biologically my husbands. She has had a lengthy medical history. One of her doctors once said that Chandler didn’t read the textbooks! So true!! She never presents the way you’re suppose to. As a small child she had three tracheostomies and SEVERAL pnuemonias. I can’t count the times they told her lungs sounded clear and I insisted on an x-ray which showed pnuemonia. She also would look and act fine one minute only to crash the next. We live in rural upstate New York but, most of her medical history is in Boston Children’s Hospital. THEY listened but, the Dr. in NY never did. One pnumonia the Dr. in NY admitted her in the local tiny hospital. She was in the ICU that had 5 beds, with an O2 sat of 85 and going down hill. She ended up medi-flighted to Boston with bacterial/RSV pnuemonia. I completely understand. She’s going to be 15 in a couple of weeks and her medical oddyssy still continues. I’ll say prayers for Alexa! Take care!
My prayers are with you and Alexa! You are a strong mommy! God Bless!
Oh, Lauren~~you are THE best Mom on earth! I am so glad you had a positive experience with the hospital and staff. That is SUCH a blessing! Thank goodness you are the fighter that you are, as you got good results, and a positive outcome. I can’t imagine what might have happened had they NOT listened to you as they did! I hope Alexa gets well quickly…and completely. And I hope she doesn’t suffer too much with the flu. Blessings to all of you. 😀 Oh, and by the way~~your CARD is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!!
Holy Smokes!!! Good thing the doctor listened to you Lauren. Give Miss Alexa a hug from me. Make sure you get some rest too or you’re going to get sick my friend.
That is a totally cute card you made and sending it to the staff at the ER is a great idea. Too often the hospital staff only gets complaints and not kudos. Hang in there.
Sorry to hear about Alexa’s bout with pneumonia and flu. Glad she is on the mend. Gorgeous card and wonderful details. Thanks for the link to Kay’s ~ definitely a worthy cause and so cute too. Hugs, Maria
Alexa, you have a kick-butt Mommy!! You are very lucky!! Wishing you healthier days very soon. Lauren, am glad things worked out for you at the ER .. wishing you better days ahead. Will continue to keep you all in my prayers.
Love your work!!
Let’s start by a big (((((((HUG)))))))) I’ll pray for you all. I know that we are so worry about our children when they have special needs health wises. Your card is wonderful.
Give us news!
Way to go Mama! You know you child!! So glad you got to the root of things quickly and I agree with you re: the staff and doctors who attended her. It is wonderful when a doctor listens especially when the outward “signs” don’t fit what the person is saying and even better to admit it – oh to have more doctors like that in the world! Reminds me of that wonderful movie that was done years ago (can’t recall the name!) where I think the doctor had cancer and survived and when he went back to practicing again he made all his interns be a patient with a disease for a week so they knew what it was like to be on the other end.. Hope Alexa gets better quickly and you can get some rest!! Great card – can see why it makes you happy 😀
Thank goodness .So glad you got your daughter taken care of right away. Speedy get well wishes to her.
Have a good Sunday.
Hope Alexa gets better soon! What a story… you are so strong… I guess you have to be to deal with everything… maybe you can get a nap today if everything goes well. :o)
Super cute project! Great colors and love the snowflakes. TFS!
Lauren, my heart goes out to you and what you must have been going through. I can so relate. My son, Ian, was born with Gastroscesis. He has chronic impactions and UTI infections. UTI’s are rare for a boy – especially an 11 year old. But, nonetheless, they are not rare for Ian. I have had multi reactions in the ER over his symptoms. We, as parents – and even on ourselves – sometimes have to be forceful and demand them to listen to us. Otherwise, a bad UTI for Ian can get diagnosed as acid reflux, or just an intestinal infection. This has happened before in the ER. My daughter recently had her gall bladder removed. Before that, she was at the ER twice for pain and diagnosed with acid reflux. This was only after the doctor pushed on her area of pain and made that diagnosis. No tests or ultrasounds were done!! I’m so relieved they listened to you and treated you well. I hope Alexa is on the road to recovery very soon. Bless you and your family.
What an ordeal for you and sweet Alexa. Prayers to you and yours that she will get better quickly.
I’m glad you have learned to become proactive when it comes to your kids being sick. You obviously know from Alexa’s history when she is sick and so glad the doctors listened to you. My prayers are with you & your family. Hope you all don’t get the flu!
I am so sorry to hear about Alexa. Mom’s always know best! I would love to send her a get well card. If you email me with your mailing address, I will get one out.
This is a beautiful card, too. I just ordered these for my on-line store.
I hope you get some rest and that Alexa is feeling better soon.

Oh my….I am so in awe of you and your courage! Here I am absolutely torn over to give or not to give the H1N1 to my 2 girls. I just want to do the right thing and not regret our decision either way.
I love this card and all of your creations. I sure do appreciate your time with all you have going on in your life 🙂
Aww, Lauren I’m so sory to hear about Alexa! Poor kid! I love how she said she needed to lay down and needed a bucket…what a “big” girl she is for knowing what she needs!!! You seriously deserve a round of applause for being so persistant with everyone involved in Alexa’s care. If it wasn’t for mom’s like you (I happen to be very lucky and have a wonderful mom just like you) Alexa would be suffering alot more then she need be! Keep up all of your awesome work as an awesome mom!
Now to comment on your adorable card…so cute and I know the staff that helped care for Alexa will appreciate it! I love the airbrushed sky…so pretty! The bear does look like the one in the ad campaign too! What a beautiful inspiration to draw from! Love it!
I hope you and Alexa are able to get some much needed rest today! She will be in my thoughts and prayers! Wishing and praying for Alexa to have a very speedy recovery! Many hugs to both you and Alexa! 🙂

I pray that the Lord’s healing hands be with her this weekend and that she recover WITHOUT any further complications! The card is ADORABLE…of course! I wouldn’t expect anything less from you! 🙂
God gives mothers a special gift of knowing when our little ones need extreme care. I will keep you all in my prayers. The card is adorable. Love it.
Wow. Hang in there. Can so relate to your incredulaty at having medical professionals actually ‘hear’ what you had to say but so glad they did. Many hugs to your darling girl and to you -(its got to be so hard not to be able to give her the H1n1 vaccine). Heres to Mommy intincts and Mommy Energy.
Lauren, My prayers are with you and beautiful little Alexa. I always knew you were an incredible talent but after reading Alexa’s story today, I realize now what a blessing God has given to the world through both you and Alexa! You are an incredible mom!
Lauren – I am so sorry Alexis & you had to go through another scare. I have never left you a note before – your work is SO awesome, you get sooo much feed back….God HAS given you a way to cope. You bring happiness to us wanna a’ bees!! Your family is in my prayers….
ps You are funny!!!!…. Loved the “clean sweep’ before DAD gets home…I am older, so I invented it!!!
Doctors who are willing to LISTEN and ACT on what a mother says are precious. I believe that when we have a child; God blesses us with extra gifts–knowledge of our children in our hearts–and eyes in the back of our heads–and ears for mischief.
Please tell your precious daughter that she is in our thoughts and prayers.
Nancy
I hope Dawn is feeling well soon. It’s just so scary when our children have special needs. But I’m so glad she has you to watch over her and fight for her when it’s necessary. Good moms come in all sizes and shapes, and you are a GOOD MOM. My best wishes for you and the whole family.
I am praying for a fast recovery Alexa and praying for you and your family as well. The ER doctors who actually listen are a God send! We had to deal with the ER about 7 yrs ago with our dd and a breathing problem. They were great with her and us! I am glad that you had a good experience with them.
Thank you for sharing with us. Tell Alexa that we hope she feels better soon!
Thank you for the beautiful card! You are so talented and I love all of your work.
Sending best wishes to Alexa and a speedy recovery… You are such a GREAT mother she is and your other children are lucky to have sucha great mother…

I peak in and read your blog every so often (only because I am too busy to check in all the time). I love the work you do you are just so creative. However, I have to say that today’s post SO touched my heart. You are an amazing woman, and an even more amazing Mom. You are a true inspiration to many of your readers, I am certain. God Bless you and your family. I pray for your strength, and for your family’s health. Find comfort in our Lord, He will answer all of your prayers.
Thanks so much for sharing your life with us – you’re just family ya know!
I have something for you to consider….health care like you described isn’t so common any more and I think it should be rewarded. Think about posting the names and address of those who were so wonderful to your child and let us all send cards of thanks to them. Can you imagine how they’d feel? Just a thought

Hi Lauren, sad to hear that Alexa is sick. Our prayers are with her and all your family. Give her lots of hugs and you my friend, take care of you too.
Lauren, I am sorry to hear that your oldest ‘baby’ (they will always be our babies, no matter what age they are!) is sick – Hope she makes a speedy recovery! But, I can relate to this so much! I have a 4 yr old that has uncontrolled asthma and gets pneumonia often. He almost never runs a fever and I can tell when he is sick by the way his face looks and I can tell you what he has by the way his cough sounds. I swear peds office nurses thought I was crazy when i tell them – I think he has strep, etc. b/c of how his cough sounds. I have been right so many times they don’t question me anymore! We are at the dr’s office about 2-4 times a month with him. My peds dr. asked me if I was a dr myself the first few times we saw her! Anyway, I know all about how fast they can go down hill! Unfortunately, Carson has also had multiple allergic reactions to antibiotics, so he has to be treated and watched very carefully! (He is allergic to penicillan, azithromycin, and cephalosporins.) He caught the H1N1 about 3 weeks ago and managed to do very well with it, but I was pretty scared given his history with asthma and pneumonia. Of course, this doesn’t even come close to the complications you have dealt with your daughter’s cancer! Again, I hope she makes a speedy recovery and no one else catches the flu. Unfortunately, it went through our whole house, minus our oldest daughter! Hugs and Starbucks to ya! ~Tori
You Moms are amazing! How do you have the internal sonar to know when something is wrong? How can you jump to the rescue when your children need it most? Yes, you Moms are amazing! Add to it you are amazingly creative and thoughtful! Did I say, you Moms are amazing? Prayers and hugs!
Hi Lauren
Thanks for sharing your story. I follow your blog faithfully and feel that I know you. My prayers are with you and your family. It’s devastating when the kids are sick – I know. Take care of yourself too! Love the cute card – those images are adorable!

Keep trusting Him with your sweet little girl. He is the God who sees and hears us. Genesis 16 is a good reminder of who He is! 🙂 Have a wonderful day!
Lauren,
God is watching you and your girl and family. The moment you decide to upon your heart to God, he will guide you and give you strength, peace and happyness. Continue with your faith and God will send his guarding Angels to protect you and your family. I’m very happy that you had great help in the hospital and that the doctor listened to you. Moms knows best. Psalm 91; My refuge and fortress my God in whom I trust. I will keep you in my prayers.
How’s Alexa doing this morning? How are *you* doing this morning? I’ve been thinking of you….
Hugs…
My son had the flu and it hit hard and fast. It came out of no where and the fever would spike in a matter of minutes. He is a healthy kid and it keep him out of school for 7 days and ended up losing 10% of his body weight (and he didn’t have any weight to lose). It was the sickest I have ever seen him. We went to an Urgent Care clinet on day the dr office another and then the ER that night and another ER a few days later. It has been about two weeks now and he is much better, but still too skinny. It was so scary. I will pray for Alexa and you that it won’t be scary and she will recovery quickly.
I hope Alexa is feeling better. I know exactly what you talking about with Alexa’s lungs. My son is the exact same way. You must have had a wonderful dr at the ER. Please keep us informed as to how shes doing.
Hope you both got some rest and are feeling better. Also hope the rest of you don’t get the flu.
I went threw it with my kids. with husband in the navy he was always away. We would all be sick at the same time and just spent time all together untill it ran it’s course.
No fun.
Hang in and get better.
Here’s to an amazing mom, a father who listened and did not fight you on it, a daughter who is truely blessed to have you for a mom, an amazing medical staff and to God for watching out for you and never giving us more than we can handle even though we think it is a little much some times. Hang in there. The flu is crazy scary here in my state and kids are dropping like flies, but the medical professionals are on top of it.
Sending you much love and prayers for all to be healthy and well
NO ONE knows a child like their mother. Kudos to you for taking decisive, definitive action – you quite possibly saved Alexa’s life – AGAIN! You are such a great Mom!
Thank you for relating this story. I’m an R.N. and was delighted to hear how well you were treated at the hospital. There are many caring, dedicated, hard working, and well trained doctors and nurses. Unfortunately we usually only hear the horror stories. And you have no idea how much a little thank you card or gift of candy is appreciated by the medical staff. They know they are doing a good job, but we all like to hear a little compliment and praise once in a while. And on those crazy-busy days or nights when a lunch or dinner break is non-existent, a piece of candy you can pop in your mouth to boost that energy level (and quiet the growling stomach) is like a little piece of heaven!
I just wanted to let you know I am thinking about your daughter and I know how you feel. My son has been fighting cancer since he was a year and a half and his tumor has just begun to grow again. He is now 7 and my heart is just breaking for him because I cant make it go away. So I know how you feel. If you ever need to talk to someone I am always available. My children are my light and a sick child teaches you so many things that no one would ever imagine. I have three children Dante 7, Julia 4 and Gabriel 1.

Everyone should have a mother who cares about them like you do your child. Hope Alexa is feeling much better soon.
Gentle hugs for Alexa

That card is the best Lauren…I love that image!
Don’t moms know everything? I think you should get your own Nobel for all the harrowing things you have to deal with when it comes to Alexa. Much like my Avery, nothing is ever so simple as a “cold” or “flu”…good for the docs for going the extra mile to catch the pneumonia early (Ave had RSV last winter and they missed it…grr!).
Lauren, pray over your children, especially Alexa, anoint them with oil and speak verses from the Bible about healing & health over them. You do not have to accept sickness & flu. If you put the reports of doctors above the report of the Lord, you are making an idol of the doctors because you believe their word above the Word of the Lord. That’s what I remind myself when I think someone is getting sick in my family. You have to be assertive & aggressive against this flu stuff. Pray & medicate is my motto. We have prayed away sickness several times already this season.
Lauren, you are so truly inspirational. You deal with so much as a mum and yet you have regular (gorgeous!) blog updates sharing your passion with papercraft. I just don’t know how you do it. I shed a tear as I read this post and I’m sorry your baby girl is sick again. My prayers are with your family. Thank-you for generously sharing so much of yourself with us.
Lauren – I’ve kept this post “unread” in my Google reader for the last few weeks and am finally writing a comment. I’m sorry that you had to go through that with Alexa and hope she’s doing better now. I know only a small part of how it feels with my older daughter, Madeline, who is 5. She has asthma, eczema and multiple food allergies. She was hospitalized 1 week after her first birthday because of her asthma. It’s so scary having our little ones sick and in a strange place. I get so frustrated when Madeline is sad that she can’t be just like the other kids and eat what they can or run around when they do. But I am so thankful to God that she is in my life and that these are the only medical issues we have to work through. I admire you and the strength you have. I also am in awe of your talent and thank you for sharing it through your design teams and your blog. I look forward to reading your posts.
