Oh does this story bring back memories of our daughter going to school the first day...poor thing she thought that we were leaving her there and never coming back. How kids interpret things is so different from what we say.

She was happy to see me pick her up after her half day..was happy to know that she could still come home.
Your children all look so cute in their outfits..I feel sad for the little fellow who got teary eyed and clung.. That happened too at Em's school on her first day.

the teacher was kind and let the mothers stay that had a problem with their children. It did help them to feel more secure and by weeks end..they all were OK.

thank you for this great story about your children's first day to school...it brought back lots of memories..

Funny reading about your kids' back to school day. I was recalling a writer Lois McMaster Bujold who said in an essay that she is getting quite spoiled now. Her kids are in school, so she uses the school day to work on her fiction. (Science Fiction and Fantasy is what I think she mostly does.) Before the kids were in school it was 15 minutes here and maybe 30 minutes there to work on her writing. But now she has the whole school day to work. No wonder she's feeling quite spoiled.

Just imagine when they are all in 6 hour days, and you have all that time to work on your stamping!

I do love that you let them choose their clothes and such. Here around Dallas most school districts have uniforms. But I've seen parents have the biggest fuss and fight over what their kids want to wear.

I don't say anything, but I sure want to.

Or they don't accept that a kid is just shy. Or very energetic. (I even know someone who was intimated by their kids' being so smart. WT-? If I had a kid, I would just want them to do well; I'd be over the moon if they were smarter than me!)

Oh, and before you know it, they'll be teenagers! Then you, mom, will be uncool. So enjoy this while it lasts.

I loved reading about your kids & the start of school. I have one in college and one entering her freshman year of high school, but I remember the day when both were in school at the same time. The silence was overwhelming! LOL! I, too, looked forward to that day for such a long time - but when it finally arrived, I spent the day waiting for the bus to come back home. I missed them so much!
I got over that and now still treasure my quiet time when I have the house to myself. And to think that in four years, my baby will be in college -- oy!!

I loved your post. I can totally identify with your feelings! Really, though, I wanted to let you know that I think it's terrific that you accept that Alexa is shy. As a shy person whose mom always tried to make me "not be so shy", I love that you are letting your daughter be who she is. It wasn't until after I had my son, who is autistic, that I learned to really accept who I am because I accept who he is unconditionally. I hope that makes sense!

Aww... I just loved your post today....Made me all teary-eyed. I know exactly where you are coming from.
Last year, when G was a Junior in high school and we started getting these college brochures in the mail - it really didn't bother me. NOW, I'm bawling over every one. My baby is a SENIOR! Next year - this time will be really heart-tugging.... My oldest off to college and my youngest off to kindergarten. (Yikes, I'm tearing up again...)
Your children are just precious. They look so happy and excited!
Big hugs to you, Lauren! Enjoy your quiet time!
Love, Renee
