Hi Lauren! Welcome to the runners world before you know it you will get hooked...I see you doing a 5K before next summer ;) I am so glad you took up running, I am passionate about running, it is good for the body and soul. I am a night time runner during the week days and on the weekends I do a long run in the morning, it keeps me in shape, full of energy and sane. For me running is like Yoga to others specially after a challenging day. I still have a 3 year old at home but starting in aug he is going to pre-school which opens the mornings on week days for me to run. Sarah posted a GREAT begginers running schedule, it so happens to be the same one I did when I began running 7 years ago. If you follow that schedule you will be running great in no time. I started out just running for fun, then it became a lifestyle, next thing you know I am running 5K'S and 10 K'S every year at least 5 times a year, I LOVE IT! Congratulations on your new adventure have fun with it!. I too do exercise videos and Denise Austin has some good ones I also like The Firm (the oldest ones) Good luck lady and you are making a difference by motivating us.

This set is so cute! I am really hoping I win it! Love the 'dirt' on him! :)

I love that you are posting about exercising! I just recently got back into it. We have a gym in our neighborhood, paid for in our home owners dues w/ free childcare up to 2 hours a day - no excuses right? My rountine consists of 30 minutes on the treadmill - alternating jogging and brisk walking. Then I get on the recumbant bike and go about 10 miles in 30 minutes (resistance lvl 9-10) - that's a pretty brisk pace, I think. So far, I am feeling so much better and am looking forward to my next workout. I will start working on weights, etc. later, I just love the bike - tomorrow I am shooting for 15 miles or 45 minutes whichever comes first! :)

I really don't have a lot of weight to lose, I have always been the same size even after my kids - the clothes just fit tighter from time to time. I am really trying to trim my thighs and rear and get back to a flatter stomach (I have been doing some crunches too). I did try working out on Wii Fit - my dd has it. i had a blast and was sore for a few days. I just really want to get back to bikini bod after 3 kids!!

Thanks for the inspiration to keep pushing foroward with my goals! :)

You really are an inspiration on so many levels. So many good points and feedback which are obviously working for you - awesome.

I made the decision last June to train for a 1/2 marathon in January 09 ... never really ran a day in my life....started super slow and built up to it. I aimed for a 3 hour finish (which isn't super fast...but its running the entire time) and I did it in 3:07 which I thought was fabulous. I proudly display my 13.1 sticker on my minivan and smile everytime I see it.

We purchased a wii for the kids a couple of weekends ago and I got the EA Active for me. Absolutely love it - 30 day challenge/virtual trainer thing - it rocks.

Good luck with the running.

Good for you Lauren :D Way to mix it up and keep with the system. Being is shape is a fabulous feeling, gives you more energy and makes you feel better about yourself. I'm enjoying getting back into it after a 6 year break (insert kids here). I used to be at the gym 4 - 5 days a week in my single days -- for the love of it as well as a good stress relief. Nice to be able to get more regular with my exercising again now.

By the way, brace yourself for Billy Blanks! It is a great workout. I just LOVE Billy! I have his Boot Camp set (got 3 different sets at Costco over the past 3 years) and it is one heck of a workout, especially with the Bands/bars/weights thrown in. I was in shape when I first did him and was still stiff the next day. Great full body workout. The moves take a bit of time to learn so don't get too frustrated the first time you do it. After a few times you'll learn them and be able to keep up.

Great cards too! Keep up the good work!!

Hi Lauren. Cute card! I highly recommend Charlene Prickett's videos. She has a lot of different kinds; my favorites are the step videos and the ball workout. My daughter just started running about a year ago (never thought she'd run!) and in April she completed her first half marathon! She's training now for a full marathon in December. You may be doing a marathon in a couple of months!

Hi Lauren,
I wanted to chime in about the running. I started running this spring. I joined a runner's group in town. We meet three times a week and are training for a 5K in July. Each week we increase our running time. It has really helped my endurance. Here is the schedule
Week 1 run 1 min, walk 2 min, repeat 6 times 7 min. total running
Week 2 run 1 min, walk 1min, repeat 9 times 10 min total running
Week 3 run 2 min. walk 1 min, repeat 6 times 14 min total running
Week 4 run 3 min. walk 1 min, repeat 4 times 15 min total running
Week 5 run 4 min, walk 1 min, repeat 3 times 16 min total running
Week 6 run 5 min, walk 1 min, repeat 2 times then run 2 min 17 min total running
Week 7 run 6 min, walk 1 min repeat 2 times 18 min total running
Week 8 run 8 min, walk 1 min repeat 1 time, then run 3 min 19 min. total running
Week 9 run 10 min, walk 1 min repeat 1 time 20 min total running
Week 10 run 20 min nonstop
I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions. Sarah

#1- That Sports card was over the top.....adorable! :) I love boy stuff a lot of the time. I do love the girly too! :)

#2- Thanks for your blog today with all of the info about what you do and your mindset. :) I did really laugh about the exercise ball thing. :) I would have been too embarrassed to ever try again. I do want to get healthy though and you may just be what I need to get up nd go! :)
