Today I have a special post sharing one of my favorite family holiday traditions!
View Nichole’s blog for samples from all the Papertrey Ink design team members ๐
You may not know this but home-made waffles are BEYOND my most favorite breakfast food-ever! Last year Jason bought me an AMAZING Krups Waffle Maker. I was in HEAVEN! It seems like EVERY time we would go get breakfast they either didn’t have waffles or weren’t serving them any longer that day :C BIG BUMMER!
When I lived in Massachusetts, and was pregnant with Noah, I LIVED at the TD Waffle house. Now that we live in no man’s land, there is nothing like that “in these here parts” LOL!
SO, this is one of my favorite gifts ever. Every Sunday Jay makes me waffles for breakfast. Isn’t that sweet? Now I will share my favorite one. I guess that is alos yet another tradition we have! Big breakfasts every weekend ๐ YUM-O
Apple Streusel Waffles
Archer Farms ( the products made by Target) have the most AMAZING Apple Streusel Waffle mix-ever! I am not an “apple” person but this is total heaven for me. If you read my blog you know how much I adore Archer Farms products, especially for the holidays, and gift giving. Its like affordable gourmet food, on aย drive-thru budget! LOL!
OK so you are wondering WHY all this is so important.
Well, Nichole asked us all on the Papertrey Ink design team, to create a item that shared an important family tradition that we celebrate with out families. Now I have many of the same traditions most of you do. The special ornament for each child every year, making reindeer food, Christmas cookies for Santa, watching Its a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story every year, and many many more things. I decided to share a new tradition we started with you that I just love, and hope lasts for years to come.
Well with my waffle maker last year, we began a new family tradition with my family. Every Christmas morning, bright and early, my family comes to house, to have a breakfast buffet! Each person brings their favorite breakfast item to get cooked up and share with the family! The grandparents get to watch kidsย excitement as they open their gifts, and share a relaxed family meal, before yet a another new year approaches. Its such a cherished time. Our kids are small only once, and this time will pass before we know it.
I hope this tradition continues long after that, into the time I will come to my own children’s home to watch my grandchildren open gifts Christmas morning.
It is just another day for family and sharing.
So that being said I know I will always be making waffles of some sort!
ย I also thought it would be nice to re-package up that mix (streusel topping is in a separate baggie inside), and decorate the jars of it, to be sent home with my family members, as a thank you, andย so they can be reminded of this time on another day, when they have this for breakfast! Much prettier than a big ole green box of waffle mix, don’t you think? AND no cooking required for the gift (hehehe-perfect to me).
I stamped my Boards & Beams set, along with elements from Home for the Holidays to create a wrap for my jar! The fence, trees, and snowmen wrap all the way around ๐ It’s really pretty in person. The icicles are done in white embossing powder, then re-stamped and embossed with iridescent ice embossing powder. I also did a few snow drifts. Perfectly tied with a pure poppy satin bow!
I love the little tag I made using one of my most favorite gift giving sets-Holiday Treats
I think these make great teacher gifts too! It is after all APPLE Struesel! LOL! I know teachers hate the apple things, but this may be one stereotype they could fall in love with.
This is the top of the jar. It directs you on how to prepare the mix. This can also be for pancakes!
I just printed the info, and cut with my nestabilities.
AND YES Iย realize I put “pancakes”ย instead of waffles in my directions. I’m changing that! But hey thats what happens when you are up at 2am, typing directions for a project. It doesn’t matter as the recipe is the exact same for both versions of the mix.
I am really happy with how this turned out, and think they are just the cutest gifts for my family!
I got my jars at Target for $3.99 and the mix was also $3.99! SO, for a whopping $8, you have a super yummy gift ๐ too!
I hope you consider the family breakfast buffet as a newย tradition for your family too. It doesn’t have to be JUST a Christmas thing. It could also be a random time of year, such as a Mother’s day thing.
Thanks for checkin in here, and letting my share more on my life ๐
I’d love to hear about some random tradition any of you have that you would like to share with us here! Maybe even a favorite family dish, that brings a smile to your face. You may hook me into a new recipe! Now that would be cool.
I’ll be back later with another post!
Its my dog Daisy’s birthday today ๐ She is off to the groomers, and I made her a card. I know, I’m lame, but I love her. I even got her presents! LOL! Be back with photos ๐

This looks great. What a good gift and great tradition!
Been stalking you blog for ages – It’s all outstanding!!! – I added you to my blog – roll – hope that’s ok – Love your creations and this one is no exception.
Happy Birthday, Daisy! I can’t believe she’s already another year older! You’re not lame – we celebrate our dog’s birthday too (with a doggie cake and gifts too).
Your Waffle Mix gift is amazing! Absolutely a great gift! It turned out great! I love your story behind it too.
Now that you’ve given me warm-fuzzies for the Holiday season, I can’t wait for it it get here!
Hugs!
Wow what an amazing tradition…I always make homemade cinnamon rolls for Xmas Morning… I’ve not seen this waffle mix. Will have to look for it..Could you post a photo of the box…
Oh it seems like forever that Daisy is part of your family but I now remember she was supposed to be your Christmas gift last year! ๐
I love your family breakfast tradition (food + Family = great time ๐ ) and your cute jars! ๐ And you know I am a Target shopper too and love Archer’s Farm products. On top of being delish and affordable, most of them are also kosher! What more could I be asking for!! LOL ๐
My favorites are the almonds (my healthy snack of choice!) and the Toffee caramel popcorn (I try to stay away from that one or I eat the whole thing!)….
I’m seriously considering doing “cookies in a jar” this year for teacher’s gifts and such but I don’t know if it’s popular here and if it will be well received. Some people apparently only like things that are in a “sealed package” if you know what I mean.
I can’t believe Daisy is already one year old. I don’t make a card for my Boxer, but he does get a birthday cake!
I’ll have to check out that waffle mix, sounds heavenly.
We bounce all over for Christmas, but I do love baked french toast on Christmas morning. It bakes while we open presents. You just slice challah bread and then mix your eggs, cream, spices and pour into the dish and let it sit overnight. In the morning, melt butter, brown sugar and pecans to spoon over the top before baking. Yummy!
fantastic tradition, maybe for Easter as well, and
love how the packaged item turned out tfs
That is a great tradition and sounds so yummy. We don’t have a target here but I think I will have to get a friend to bring some back when she goes to the U.S. Love the jar and the wrap .Very pretty!
I just love to do homemade gifts! Thanks for the great idea. I would never have thought to repackage a store bought item. Great idea!
Happy Birthday Daisy! Lauren, your post made me hungry! Those waffles look and sound delicious. What a wonderful gift and tradition to have!
Super cute, Lauren! That Archer Farms Apple Streusel mix can also be used to make yummy pancakes, too. ๐ I’ll have to try the waffles sometime!
Another fabulous idea Lauren!!!! I love waffles, and how sweet of your hubby! Love the holiday set too.
Love all your packaging ideas. Just ordered B&B and the Home for the Holidays sets can’t wait to use them. Happy birthday to Daisy thanks again for sharing your wonderful ideas. Ann lind
I married a man with 5 kids. I started the Christmas Day breakfast brunch the first year we were married and it continues to this day…28 years later! It’s a wonderful tradition!
My compliments to you!
great idea lauren, and the packaging just looks divine. We don’t have target here, but I could buy waffles mix and upgraded. We also have a special breafast christmas day, its a magical day.
Great gift, great presentation, and great tradition! I was in target the other days looking at Archer Farms stuff, thinking of you! hehe.
That is beautiful. Amazing job with the house scene. I love that you made it wrap all the way around the jar. Those waffles sound delish! And Im starving, bad combo. -Molly B
I too LOVE ArcherFarms but I haven’t found the Apple Streusel waffles yet… gonna have to run back to Target and see if I can find it now! (yes, I just walked in the door from being at Target! LOL)
This is a great idea and you are so right about the Archer Farms products, they are good. Your container turned out fantastic. OK, I know you said you got the jars at Target, but what size are they and are they glass or plastic. Where in Target did you find them?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAISY!!! I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since I fell in love with her ADORABLE little face!!! I think it’s perfectly normal to have bought gifts for her, and I’m sure she loved her card! =)
Have a wonderful day, and thanks for sharing your delicious waffle idea and tradition!!!
Hi Lauren, Love the jars. Packaging is amazing. TFS! I’ll be trying this waffle mix now. I love waffles and what a great gift idea. I’ll have to look at some of the other archer products. My husband loves nuts so I want to see if they carry a line of them. What size jars did you use?
What a fun gift! Happy Birthday to Daisy!
I don’t think you are silly for making Daisy a card or buying her gifts. My puppy will be one in November and since she has eaten a lot of my make-up and now is staritng to eat my friends make-up, we are going to have a make-up party minus the eating and instead of gifts i want the guests to buy pet supplies to donate to our local PAWS organization :c) I love coming to your blog … your creations are absolutely beautiful and i am always amazed at your creativity. Oh and the dog house card that you made … i am going to have to steal that idea for my dogs birhtday invitations … if that is okay with you :C)
Such a great gift. I love Target so of course Archers Farm items are great.
I love the idea of the Apple Streusel pancake/waffles. I am going to have to go look for them next time I am at Target. Since I am about 45 mins away it probably won’t be until the weekend.
My husband and I haven’t started a new tradition we have decided to keep an old tradition alive. My hubby is Italian and for Christmas Eve Italians have fish meals for dinner, bacala, crab cakes, shrimp and cocktails, we also have stuffed shells (manacotti) and of course now that I have my own machine I make pizzelles (sp) (a traditional Italian cookie). Everyone loves them even my family who are as white as you can get hehehe.
Happy Birthday Daisy!!!
I now can’t go into Target without thinking of you!
Our family has a tradition but it doesn’t involve a holiday or food. In involves a stuffed monkey. Aahem, yes, I wrote stuffed monkey, but it is a kid’s stuffed animal. My sister got it as a Christmas gift about 35 years ago when she was a tiny baby and now it is constantly being “kidnapped”, having its photo taken around the world and U.S. and even appearing at family weddings and funerals in its special tuxedo. Ransom notes are left, photos passed and all kinds of hijinx involving our sweet monkey. It’s been to the Eiffel Tower, Mexican beaches, the Italian coast, you name, it the monkey has seen it all over the years, and yes, surprisingly it still has all its stuffing. It is an extended family fixture.
Lauren,
Again, thanks for all the great inspiration with this latest PTI release!!! Wow, can’t wait to have some of these great sets in my collection ๐ I also wanted to thank you for the recommendation of Peppers and Pollywogs last week. . .I immediately clicked on your link, ordered it, and got it today. What a fantastic resource as I’m currently trying to plan parties for my two oldest (10 & 8) children. I get “so much more” then just stamping ideas from you!!!! Thank you for sharing yourself with us daily.
Great present idea and I love how it turned out. I have been wondering about Daisy – you haven’t mentioned much about her lately. Can’t wait to see the card for her. My big guy is laying here by me and he wants to wish her a Happy Birthday too! The nearest Target is a good hour away from us but when I do go there, I gotta look for the mix, sounds wonderful! thanks so much for all your great ideas!
What a cute idea! I just love it! What a great tradition too! Don’t you just love Target? I don’t know if you have tried it, but they bakery makes a loaf of bread called Apple Fritter bread. Out of this world! My kiddos love it and it goes really well with my morning coffee! Makes great French toast too!
That is such a nice gift! Love it!
Waffles are my parents Christmas breakfast tradition too! The company my dad has been with for the last …really long time… usually gives them all a nice ham, so Dad does his wonderful waffles and ham. Last year we had it for Christmas dinner becuase we couldn’t all get together until then! ๐
Sooo excited for Christmas!!!
Yes, I would like to make this a family tradition….but, I think I want to come to YOUR house and have your hubby fix waffles for me too LOL.
Your husband has such a good heart (and so do you). I am so happy that you found each other. Isn’t it great when you have someone so supportive?
So gorgeous and yummy too!
Love the wrapper you made! If it looks this nice on the ‘puter, it must be spectacular IRL! Great gift idea as always.
Happy Birthday Daisy!
You come up with the neatest ideas, special gift for them to take home, and yes the presentation is much better than the box ๐
Praying for Alexa! Praying hard!
Hope Daisies birthday was fun. Love the waffle project and all of the other ones. I like the idea of a breakfast tradition. We have no family nearby, though. Have to work on that idea!
I love your idea and will have to check out the apple streusel mix as my family loves waffles too. One family tradition we have is that my dad always brings Sticky Buns to our house on Christmas morning. I’m not sure of the exact recipe, but it’s got instant pudding mix, brown sugar, pecans, and lots of butter in a bundt pan, then Rhodes dinner rolls in on top of that. After it’s baked, you turn it upside down and all the delicious gooey-ness runs over the rolls. You pull it apart like what some people call monkey bread. It wouldn’t feel like Christmas with out Papa’s Sticky Buns!
I love your blog and will keep praying for Alexa!
What a great idea, that mix idea. Did you just buy a box mix (apple strusel waffle mix)? That sounds yummy.
Our family has a similar Christmas morning tradition. We have red and green waffles. I think this Christmas I’ll introduce the family to the apple strusel mix. Your gift idea is wonderful. Thank-you for doing all the home-work and telling us where we can find all the “fixings”
Yes, thank for the details a million! Have to discover anybody organizing Tea Party. I wants to participate in organizing.
i genuinely like your world-wide-web internet site. Its really informative. Goodbye!
