Well I know they say the 13th is suppose to be “unlucky”, but I am not sure sure I buy into that. Two of my children are born on the 13th (I admit it was the LAST date I wanted, but oh well), and can’t say I have had anything “bad” ever happen on that date (knockin on wood-I know that doesn’t make sense if Im not superstitious but whatever). Not sure where I was even going with that whole point-maybe each day is what you make it to be?
Anyway——
Amber has her mini preschool graduation! My baby is getting so big. I will be taking a lot of photos, that is for sure.
Today I hope to finish up my Father’s Day project-but it really depends how today goes. I have my class tonight! I am excited about that, and hope I have the energy to be excited when I am there. It will have been a LONG day by then.
In prepping for that my paper cutter BROKE! AGAIN!!
Here is where I need YOUR advice!
I am on the hunt for a new paper cutter-any suggestions would be much appreciated. I loved the Making Memories one I had, but I have to say its broken in some way or another FIVE times!! I kept returning it and replacing it-but now Im totally fed up with up it. It shouldn’t be breaking!! I ONLY cut one piece of cardstock at a time, and and well able to know how to properly use a cutter! One time my cutting wheel began cutting my paper jagged-it is suppose to be self sharpening), and every other time the bar near the cutting end (hold the paper down) snapped!! WHAT THE…….???? I have even had 2 that the black lines for the grid have begun to rub off-ON MY PROJECTS!! GRRR!!
Anyway please tell me what you love! I don’t care how much it is, as we all know that our paper cutter is invaluable!!
OK Now to my post for the day!
I get so many questions and comments about how I keep track of what I am suppose to do, and HOW I get it all done and so on.
As I said before I sketch a lot. I have a book just for jotting ideas down throughout my day. When stamp time arrives I have a plan and things generally go smoothly from there. Sometimes one idea runs into the next……………and Im a creating machine, other times NOTHIN.
The KEY is organization!! I think I drive my teammates insane with my need for clear cut deadlines and details. But, that is how I work. I can’t get anything done if I am not organized!!
Well me having a touch of OCD, I am OBSESSED with having a TO DO calendar (and lists of course). I have one right above my work desk so I just look up, and see what I need to do. Given I get most of my assignments via computer-I have a hard time remembering to write it down on the calendar downstairs, and find myself filling out little pieces of paper, to go transcribe to my calendar. Well those pieces get misplaced (or usually trashed as I de-clutter the desk). Obviously my system ins’t that effective, so time for a change!
So for some time I had been dying to create a notebook JUST for that purpose!!! A calendar notebook.
I FINALLY got to it this week (while needing to create other things! I always get sidetracked into something more fun)-I created a CREATIVE note book-OK more like a huge BOOK (hahahaha) for all my design team work/assignments/projects/ideas!
Unite in Creativity Calendar Book
Isn’t it CUTE! I wanted it cute, but simple. This will take a beating over the next year I am certain of that!
I used Unity’s Create Yourself sentiment since it was PERFECT for this book. I am in LOVE with all the new single sentiments. They really ROCK!! Then to decorate, I LOVED the Best Friends set so much-so I used that here.
Brooke posted a Unity Challenge (HERE) to create a Days to Remember book. When I saw her calendar file I knew it was the PERFECT time for me to get my book done. Especially since adding a new team 😀 It really inspired me to get organized. Thanks Brooke for creating that file!! It was such a time saver for me!!
Each team has a section. See how I used Brooke’s file.
I just printed off the pages, then cut them down to the size I needed.
I can write in what I need to next to the date-which is VITAL!! I am showing you August, so I don’t give anything away! LOL! Nothing there-YET!
I used my Bind-it All to make it a spiral bound book. Let me admit that is one of my big ticket items that collected dust over the last year (or two). YIKES! But the important thing is, it was there when I needed it! LOL!!!!
For the little labels I used me Dymo Electric Label maker. Everyone needs one of those! mine allows you to change the size on the font, so I was able to do my bottom page labels, then make my tab labels all at once.
Feels good to get things organized!!
Speaking of which I gotta pack some last minute class stuff, and then get going!!
Have a great day! I hope you come back tomorrow for my Saturday Sketch!!
Till then 😀

I love this! I may just have to make one and start getting my days organized. TFS! XO, Mimi
I hope you have an awesome day!
Tell Amber we said congrats 🙂 What fun.
Love your calendar…tooo darn cute!
Lauren, this little book is so cute! I’m sure it will help keep you organized. I love that sentiment stamp too, and didn’ t KNOW I loved Best Friends, but that birdie is so cute!
I love your assignment book. that is so cute! projects like this make me want to get a bind it all – but mine would probably collect a lot of dust between projects too. 🙂
As for cutters – let us know if you find a good one. 🙂 I can say that I don’t particularly like the cricut paper trimmer. It is very similar to the Fiskars paper trimmer. Which is an old stand by, but you have to be willing to buy new blades to keep your paper cutting clean. I recently bought the Cutterpede, that cuts very nicely. It doesn’t have the big groove like the Fiskars does, it has a cutting mat. (yep something else you need to replace) The cutting mat lasts a long time since you can replace it though. It also has a rotary cutter instead of the blade cartridge. One thing I don’t like about the Cutterpede is the arm. It is raised up so you have to swing it open even when making small cuts or it gets in the way.
Wow! that was long winded. Hope it helps.
I am glad to know NOT to get the MM cutter ever!! LOL! I just have the Fiskars. I do lots of paper cutting, and this one lasts and I have been happy with it. I’ll bet there is a “better” one out there, though! Can’t wait to hear what it is!!
*LOVE* it!! it’s just fabulous!!
Cute book. I am a list maker too. I’ve got a notebook… I need a list for everything… I’m surprised I don’t have a list of lists … hahaha
Anywhoooooooo
I love my Fiskars cutter/scorer…. All I have to do is replace the blades here and there (very easy).
I have a medium one. Meaning there is a much smaller and a big old hunkin one I just didn’t need.
Anyway…. I’ve got no complaints.
em
Love your binder! What a great idea. And you’re right – it will take a beating over the next year but if it helps keeping you organized, the beating will be well worth it!
I keep going back to the good old Fiskar cutter. It’s not expensive or fancy, but it’s dependable and there when I need it. The blades are inexpensive and it’s easy to use. And they’re easy to find. I looked at the Cutterpede but couldn’t find out much about the blades or roller cutter. But let us know what you decide to go with.
Enjoy the day and you’ll be excited about your class when you get there. I’ll bet youll be amazing!
hey lauren, i have the larger fiskars (blue and orange) cutter. here, i just found a link:
http://www.fiskarscrafts.com/tools/t_12-euro-personal-paper-trimmer.aspx
it runs about $30 and you do have to change out the blade when it dulls, but truly, not that often. i’ve had mine for 6 years and it’s never been a problem and i think i’ve changed the blade 3 times. i know you have the score pal, but the trimmer has a scoring blade you can pop in for “a quickie”! teehee!
i have always wondered how you keep all your deadlines in order…i have a hard enough time with just the 4 teams i’m on! sure wish i could see your little book up close and personal!! it looks like just the thing!!
Have you taken a look at the Tonic Studios guillotine paper trimmers?
If you have a large scrapbook store nearby, they may have one you could try out.
I checked one out at an Archivers.
Good luck on your search.
Love the book!! Cute as always!!
As for the cutter, I have the Carl cutter, have for about 3 years now and LOVE it!! I can cut multiple pages with it too. I would highly recommend it. Good luck on finding one.
Lauren,
I just got a purple cow cutter. It has the Guillitone cutter and a paper trimmer all in one. The guillitone side will cut up to 5 sheets of cardstock at a time. It’s good for smaller projects. If you would like a cutter that cuts more paper at once then the Fiskars large guillitone cutter. It will cut through a phone book like melted butter. I used to use one when I had hundres of kits to make and it was a life saver. If you want more info on it, just let me know. Otherwise Purple Cow worked well.
Congrats on the pre-school graduation. It’s just so darn cute to watch those little ones with their big smiles.
Have a great day – Cheryl
I use the SU tabletop cutter.
I have a X-acto paper cutter with a laser and grid lines. I think this is the best investment I have ever made.. had for about 5 years, it cuts perfect everytime, it is like a guillotine cutter, it was purchased at Office Max for about 35-39.00 on sale..
I love it and think you would too…have a great day and the Queen will have a great class tonight,,,,,,wish I lived close by………hugs, Susie
Nice organizer 🙂 I have been using a guillotine for 4 years and love it!! It is sturdy and can cut through a few sheets at a time and still cut smoothly.
Hey Lauren!
I have four cutters…overkill. The Making Memories (which I dislike because it cuts ragged), My Fiskars big cutter that you can swap blades with (use this the most but I’ve had it so long I need a new one, sometimes the shuttle starts getting loose), the Cutterpedes (Don’t go there, not made for lots of cutting, lots of crooked cuts), and The Tonic Guillotine cutter, which I love. I’ve heard good things about the Purple Cow, but not used it. The Tonic has a bar you push down with your left hand to keep the paper firmly in place before you cut. I’ve used lots of consumer grade guillotine cutters and this is by far the best. It also cuts chipboard, which is why I bought it in the first place (about $50). If you want to go with the creme-de-la-creme rotary cutters, check at the Dahl professional series (http://www.dahle.com/rolling_trimmers.htm). There are other brands too, just search on rotary cutters on google to get a list. Their entry level professional cutter is about $129 and it has replaceable parts if you ever need them. Anything advertised as for use in an Advertising Agency is going to be a nice, heavy duty trimmer. You’re not the occasional paper trimmer, if I were you and had the money, get the professional grade rotary trimmers and maybe a Tonic Guillotine for chipboard if you have the need.
Vicki
Hope this helps!
Oh My goodness! I just received that sentiment stamp in the mail last week. I love how you used it!! So pretty!!
As for the cutter, I love my Purple Cows cutter!! Don’t care for the rotary cutters. 12″ guillotine cutting arm is my favorite!!
I’m a fan of the Fiskars rotary cutter…. http://www.fiskarscrafts.com/tools/t_12-rotary-paper-trimmer-for-crafts.aspx I’ve had mine for YEARS and it is still going strong!
I love your notebook, btw 🙂 I really need to make something to help keep my life organized!
Have a fabulous weekend, girlie!
Lauren…I love the notebook!!! I need one!!!
Cutters…Gave my fiskars to my daughter…wan’t consistent and STRAIGHT!
I use the Stampin’Up tabletop cutter – LOVE it! and the CARL Rotary 18″ RT-218!!!
These have both been great!!!! and worth every penny!!!
If you want the SU one…I’m a consultant but just for the discount…I would be glad to let you have the discount.
Have a fun day with graduation and if you have time (HA!) you can make little grad caps with hershey bars and reeses peanut butter cups and a touch of frosting. Cup upside down and 2 pieces of hershey bar, so it’s square, and put it on top with some frosting. Pipe a tassel and viola…a graduation cap!
Through many years of trying different cutters, I found that Cutterpede by Provocraft works the best for me. Straight and clean cuts!! I love it!!! I’ve had mine for 2 years and use it daily with no issues. Of course, I replace mat and the blade as needed, but those last a long time too. I even use the same cutter for the participants in my card making classes.
🙂 Irina
Great idea for organizing! Now, where did I put that!! LOL As for cutters, I have tried them many of them. My favorite is the Carl RT200 found at Staples. I have been using it for over 4 years and I just love how it cuts; it only has an 8 1/2 inch grid but since I mostly cut pieces of paper for cards that is okay and I know exactly where 4 1/4 or 5 1/2 inches are. Have fun today and a great class tonight. As for Amber I have been there and what a joy to see their first graduation. I remember my daughter was so concerned about her “cap” falling off!! What fun!
I also quilt and to cut layers of fabric requires a really sharp blade. So what I do is when the blade is too dull for fabric, I use it to cut paper!
I have a 60 mm Olfa rotary cutter and various sized acrylic rulers. They work really well for me. You’d also need a rubber mat to protect your work surface. I bought the biggest one available which was like 24 inches by 36 inches. It covers a lot of area and I don’t worry about my table top getting scratched by my tools. You can also buy blade sharpeners, so a single blade can be reused over and over again. You’d need to go to a fabric store (like JoAnn Fabrics and Crafts) to get this stuff. JoAnn’s has a big sale next week with 50% off coupons if that store is in your area.
Keep up the great work! I love seeing all of your projects! You rock!!!
I am cutter-challenged, meaning, I’ve never been able to cut a straight line. This all changed when I got the SU tabletop cutter. I’ve been told that it’s a Tonic brand cutter, if your local craft store carries that brand. I cannot express how much I love it. I always get a straight cut with no frayed edges. It’s a fabulous tool and worth every penny.
I wish I could post a picture of it for you. I (for 26 years that I have been crafting) only use a heavy duty guilotine type cutter. These cutters give you a sharp crisp even cut every time and have built-in measurments. The maker is GBC and they have a web address: http://www.gbc.com. I got it at Office Max. The model is ClassicCut CL300. I use it every day and love it.
I do also have a plastic ProvoCraft cutter for cutting itty bitty things but rarely use it. It is for going with me to classes, etc. because the other one is too buly to take with me. Hope this helps:)
hey Lauren – I love this schedule book you’ve created – love the stampings on your cover. thanks for the link to the templates!
here is a review from Julia Stainton on the guillotine paper cutter
http://bellepapier.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/2007/07/08/tonic-12-guillotine-paper-cutter-cest-bon/
– I bought one after reading this – and I just love it! I never use my blade cutter any more unless I’m taking it with me somewhere that I don’t want to bring the larger guillotine one…. or cutting something at 1/2 inch –
and the guillotine paper cutter never needs sharpening!
check it out!
Hope your class went well – I’ll be seeing you again at the Acetate one on 6/29!

I have tried several different paper cutters and the best investment I ever made was getting the 12″ Wide Guillotine Trimmer by Tonic Studio. You can find it on line at Two Peas In A Bucket for $49.95. It handles 12 x 12 paper down to very small. The holding bars are great for getting a perfect cut. Here is the description of it:
12″ Wide Base Guillotine Trimmer
By Tonic Studios
Cuts 12×12. Precision ground stainless steel blades for true, accurate, clean cutting. The same hardened blade process as for Tonic’s stainless steel scissors. General features include a base measuring grid in inches; a paper holding bar to place the thumb and finger to insure straight, clean cuts. Plus, the holding tabs keep your fingers off items you are cutting so no prints get onto your project. Base is molded from high impact plastic and comes with no-skid rubber feet on the bottoms.
Some of the Great Features on the Tonic Cutter…
light and portable
fits 12 inch square paper easily
imperial and metric measures on the cutter
blade self-sharpens
safety bar – paper slides under the clear safety bar…pressure spots for your hand keep it safely out of the blade’s way
you can see through the safety bar for easy lining up for matting
1/2″ increments grid right in the plastic base for easy measuring
easily carried by orange “handle” indentations at top of cutter
cutting handle and measuring bar projection can be removed for easy storage….there are also great little spots on the back of the cutter for them to clip into when not in use
comfortable soft handle on the blade
non-skid rubber feet on the bottom of the cutter
sturdy high-impact plastic base
reasonably priced
Let me know if you have any other questions. Good Luck.
Thanks for sharing your ideas.
Hey Lauren! I have to say that my cutter is a Fiskar’s Rotary Cutter. I have had it for many years and it works like a charm! I’m not sure how much they are now, I know they have made improvements and changes to it since I got mine. I LOVE IT and haven’t had a lick of trouble with it.
Your book is adorable! Congrats on Amber’s graduation too!!!
I have this model of Fiskarks Rotary Paper Trimmer.
http://www.fiskarscrafts.com/tools/t_european-rotary-paper-trimmer.aspx
I LOVE it! I have used the Personal Trimmers with blades but I found they tear the paper rather than cut it. I have had this for over a year and I regularily cut 5+ sheets of heavy cardstock…no problem and the blade isn’t dull.
The only drawback is when you want to trim a smaller piece of paper (say 1″ to 1/2″)…then I use my cricut trimmer.
I love your organization project btw…such a BIG help!
I actually have two trimmers that I love. I have had the typical grey w/ orange blade Fiskars cutter for years, and was getting sick of needing a new blade every time that I prepped for a day of classes, so I searched out a new trimmer. I ended up with the 12″ Tonic Studios Guillotine Cutter. It took me a little bit to love it, but I do now. I cut chipboard with it for one of my classes and the blade kept loosening, but my husband put some Loctite on it and it’s been perfect since. I still kept my Fiskars though because you can’t cut tiny little pieces very easily with the Tonic Studios cutter. Probably 97% of my cutting is done with my Tonic Studios cutter now, and I’m very happy with it. I do cut multiples with it when I’m cutting for classes, and it does great. If you want to do that I would definately use Loctite on it though. Hope you end up with something you are happy with.
Hey Lauren!
I have the large Carl cutter and love love love it! It cuts a bunch of paper at one time(up to 10 sheets with no problem) I have had it for about 3 years now, have never changed the blade, but have to change these long mat things that are under the cutter maybe once every 2 months of heavy cutting. They are very inexpensive to replace. The cutter was I think $70 when I bought it and comes in different sizes. You can google it and see it for yourself. Hope this helps! Love your blog!
Very cool organizer. I keep wanting to make something like that for addresses (both snail and web). Tell Amber happy Graduation. Ok I just got my ATG gun from the Paper tree so I am of to play. have a great weekend. -Molly B
Great organizer but gee, no sneak peek at a not-blank page?! Sorry your cutter broke while you were prepping for class. Wish I could come tonight. I love my Carl Cutter. Once I read the thread on SCS on how to get perfect cuts, it’s been a breeze. I have the DC220e and I can cut a bunch of paper at a time. The big drawback is that it’s big. It’s sits on the side of my desk and doesn’t move.
Have a great spa day tomorrow and wish Jay a Happy Father’s Day from me!
Cute notebook! Other than Copics, the BIA has to be the last item on my list that I still have not purchased yet. I’m sure its day will come though!
I use the Stampin’ Up tabletop cutter and love it. It is a guillotine cutter like the ones mentioned above. I use it to prep for workshops and for my personal use. It is supposed to be self sharpening and last forever. I like that it can cut through several layers at once, and it can shave off a tiny sliver of paper if you need to even things up, even multiple layers glued together. It is one of the best stamping purchases I have ever made – straight cuts with no fuzzies.
I also have the regular old Fiskars, that I still use for smaller pieces, but the blade needs to be replaced.
Hi Lauren! Love the calendar book–I need one too, but I never seem to get around to making anything for myself-lol! I have 2 cutters, the Carl RT-200 which I’ve had for 5 years and I love–I buy a replacement blade about every 4-6 months, but it has always worked like a charm! It can also do multiple sheets of cs at once, which I so love! I also have the smaller purple cows trimmer that I bought last year and so far so good-I use it for smaller cuts and projects. The Carl I bought at Staples, but I’m sure any office supply store has it.
I have a tonic guillotine cutter and LOVE it. It’s the 12″ one. It’s precise, self sharpening, and you can cut multiple sheets at a time without a problem. I’ve had mine for about six months now and will never go back to my old slide cutter.
My favorite cutter i own (and i own 4 or 5) is the X-Acto guillotine style cutter. It’s always my go to and i hate when i’m at a crop and dont have it with me (but it’s a little big for travel). I’ve had it for YEARS and cut everything from cardstock to chipboard with ease and have never had to replace any piece of it. I’m sure the day will come when i need a new one because the blade goes bad (not since there is a way to change the blade since it’s guillotine style) but i just adore this trimmer! It also has a little thing on it that you can lock into place so when you slide your paper in it wont go any further which is fantastic when you’re cutting lots of pieces that need to be the same size. I mean they are EXACTLY the same size every time and i go do it fast because i’m not constantly checking to make sure the measurement is dead on. So yeah, it’s my fav. 🙂
Lauren, I love this! great idea and am loving that bird.
My favorite cutter has to be my execution style cutter. It’s up to 12″ across, has a handle on the side, and the lever comes down and chops. It’s got measurements all the way across too, and I have never found anything that cuts as accurately. I’ve had it for about 4 years now and still haven’t had to sharpen it. The base part is made out of grey plastic stuff – the really firm stuff. It’s about 2.5 or 3″ thick looking at it from the side. I’ve tried the smaller ones like Fiskars, and ya, the paper never lines up from the top to the bottom – KWIM? I know you can get them at Staples in Canada, they’re probably cheaper in the US. My next purchase has to be a Bind It All or a Scor-Pal!! I love that notebook . . the Bind It All really finishes it off nicely!!
Lauren!!! You gotta get a Dahle trimmer!! Seriously! it cuts like buttah!!! I got mine from ebay, a store call Oozakie or something like that! Get a DAHLE!!!!!
Oh that little book rocks! My head and mouth hurt too much to write tons…lol but I love that idea you had and lucky for me…I have that stamp from Unity and a few others on their way to me right now…yah!
have a great weekend! Thanks for leaving me a comment on my blog about your dental woes too 😉
I have used three of four different cutters over the years but Cutterpede is my favorite by far.
And what a darling notebook. I wish I were somewhere near as organized. Mine just consists of a pile of paper scattered all around. One day, it’ll get better.
If you ever find the perfect paper cutter, you’ll have to let us know. I use an exacto knife, glass mat, and metal ruler. For years, I have heard about the Genesis cutter on scrapbook boards. It’s suposed to be the best of the best and the most expensive. 😉 Last I heard, the company had sold and they were training the new owners and not taking any more orders. The waitlist was over a year and a half at that time because every part is hand constructed. Not sure what is going on with the company now because I haven’t checked into them or been on scrapbook boards lately. You might want to look into them.
I love your organizer! I think I’m going to have to make one. I know what you mean about always making lists and then losing them. I’m the same way. Love that sentiment on the cover.
Hi Lauren! I’ve gone through many paper cutters as well (incl. the MM one- not a favorite) The one I use the most and prefer is the SU tabletop cutter which I believe is made by Tonic. I had gotten it with Hostess benefits, but I feel it is actually worth the price. Best wishes to you!
Hey Lauren,
I LOVE my Fiskars cutter from Costco. It only cost about $26 and has never given me any problems. I’ve had it for about 4 years now and have only needed to replace the cutting disc twice. The replacement discs are available at JoAnns, so I use my 40% coupon on those babies!
This is the most sturdy cutter I’ve ever used. I’ve done up to 8 sheets of paper at at time for school projects and I haven’t exactly been gentle with it.
I’ve talked all my friends into getting one as well, after they’ve seen what mine’s been through!
Happy Stampin’
MacKenzie
OK, this is ADORABLE! GREAT JOB Lauren! You have enough suggestions on Cutters so I am just going to gush over your project. It is fabulous and I love it! Enjoy your weekend!
love that notebook calendar!!! i have been through soooo many trimmers over the years…i would have to say my favorite to date is the table top cutter from stampin up. i hav ehad 4 different friskars paper cutters (rotary and slider thingy…..) hated them all….creative memories cutter….blah!…..mm…like you said – no thanks!…but i haven’t had any trouble with my table top cutter. i have heard great things about the carl cutter…i never used it though. what i like about the su table top cutter is i can cut multiple card stock sheets at a time. i like that when prepping for classes. good luck with your trimmer chase!
thanks for all of your inspiration…..you rock!
regina
Organization is a good thing, I love your little notebook! I don’t have good advice on trimmer as I use a very simple fiskars one nothing fancy.
I actually broke down and purchased a Genesis cutter, and I absolutely love it. Bonnie’s Best purchased the line, and this is a link to the site:
http://www.bonniesbest.com/genesis.htm
I have used it almost daily for well over 2 years and it cuts beautifully. I purchased the light box and an extra blade when I bought mine. I can’t see on the site that they are taking orders, but I have purchased many tools from her and have found her to be responsive and quick to ship.
If they are accepting orders, you can get a less expensive one to use in the meantime, and then use it for traveling after you get the Genesis.
HTH
Hi Lauren! (I haven’t read through the other comments so other people may have already suggested this) I use the Fiskars Rotary Blade cutter and I LOVE it! It’s $60 at Michael’s but I got mine at Costco for $28. Also, it has different blades and my fave is the scallop blade! Such an easy way to create scalloped edges – I LOVE it! No problems with it at all and the best part – I can cut up to five pieces of cardstock at a time! That saves me so much time when prepping for classes/workshops. Hope this helps! Let us know what you get 🙂
Congrats to Amber…hope she has a
wonderful time 🙂 They do grow up fast!!
I can’t wait to hear the answers for a New
paper cutter…I need a new one too!!
Your calendar notebook is so sweet..
decorated so pretty..should be very helpful!!
Good Luck with tonites class..
Take Care…
Your book is waaaay awesome, Lauren!! Congrats to your little sweetie too!
Oh…and I’m still using my good ‘ole Fiskars.
I have several cutters actually. I have my very first cutter from Fiskars that I got in 2001. It still works fine. I also have a Cutterpede cutter. Both of these are the sliding blade style cutters. I then also use my Purple Cow dual cutter. It has a slide cutter blade and also a guilletine cutter. I use it all the time since it has nice measurement gauges on its platform. I use all three a lot. It depends on the project that I am working on.
Great idea, I really need organising. I use a carl rotary cutter it’s ideal for heavy weight use, it will cut through at least two pieces of card easily and is really good because it has all the marking printed on it eg A4,A5, 4″x6″ 5″x7″. It is a DC-121 and comes with a cool wavy/scallopy type blade as well. I use a fiskars trimmer for all the smaller stuff.
cheers.
I love the Tonic cutter (Stampin’ Up! sells it with their logo on it). It’s a guillotine style cutter. I can cut 2 pieces of cardstock at a time, and the blade NEVER dulls!!! And what I like is that while it’s a full 12″ table top cutter, it doesn’t take up much space. I have had 5 or 6 different cutters in the 12 years that I’ve been scrapping and cardmaking. And this is by far my BEST one as far as use and investment!!
Hi Lauren! Been catching up on your blog! Haven’t been able to read it daily like I like. A couple days I couldn’t get to it! *gasp* I have a Purple Cow 2 in 1 trimmer that has both the guillotien (sp?) type trimmer and the rotary. I LOVE it. It can cut 6 sheets of SU cardstock no problem! It has little lines to show you exactly where to cut for a standard size card! and it’s PURPLE! Good luck with your class – I know you will rock it! Oh and enjoy your spa day.
I have the full size Tonic paper cutter, a gift from my son last Christmas. IT IS FABULOUS!!! Cuts even the tiniest slices off of paper. I also hear the Carl is a good cutter.

I have a couple of paper cutters, but the one I use the most, and am happiest with is the Tonic 12″ base guillotine cutter. I have had it for more than a year and have had no problems with it. It cuts beautifully, I use it for classes that I teach regularly. You can cut multipul sheets too. I bought it at JoAnns online and got a great deal on it. HTH
Your note book is wonderful!, I just love your blog!!
Love your little book. As for cutters I have a Carl one and several blades. It is great for big items and anything wider than about 2 inches. I also have a mini guillotine style one for smaller bits etc.
I’ve tried the fiskar’s cutter which rarely cuts a straight line and I disliked having to change the blades which dulled out too quickly. I also had the fiskar’s rotary cutter (again, didn’t like having to replace the blades), the Carl Cutter (still use and like this when I have to cut for classes). I bought the Tonic small based 12″ cutter and I think I’m done buying cutters for the rest of my stamping life. I LOVE this cutter!! It’s self sharpening, cuts straight every time, and you can cut up to 3 SU sheets of CS at once. The only down side to this cutter is that it lacks a scoring device (but I just use my scor-pal) and you can’t measure cuts under 1/2″. Other then that, I really think this is the best cutter out there. SU’s tabletop cutter is made by Tonic, so they are one in the same, just different colours.
I have heard great things about Purple Cow’s cutter…I was about to get that one, but this review on the Tonic SB 12″ cutter convinced me to go with it.

Good luck on your paper trimmer hunt!

My main cardstock cutter is a Tonic guillotine style cutter (12″ base). I’ve had it well over a year and it still works perfectly. I ordered mine online from joann.com. The one drawback is that you can’t cut skinny pieces well (under an inch). I use a Cutterpede for skinny pieces and to score (until I get a Scor Pal).

Lauren, I would recommend the Fiskars 12″ Guillotine. I hate rotary cutters….I find nothing compares to the smooth cuts from a guillotine. I have had several brands ..my last two were xacto (good but the measurements wore off after only 2 months) and my present one is Fiskars..no wearing of the measurements…they are built right into the cutting board. Anyway, hope this helps…..(I would buy another Fiskars Guillotine….so that should say alot!) Good luck with finding a new one.
Thanks so much again, Lauren for posting this. I finally got myself organized and made an organizer like yours. Have a great day!
