I know that "look" and it bothers me to no end. I've started scrapbooking again and realized what a difference there is with hair vs without and I understand why people stare. It's a lot of the unknown and the hurt they feel to see a child going through treament. I recently got asked if Emily was a boy or girl (mind you she had her TUTU on for dance pictures and a BIG green BOW on the top of her head (compliments of MUSTACHE wax!). And this little girl asked "Is that a boy or a girl." to which I proceeded to tell her a girl and she asked "Why doesn't she have long hair." I know Emily heard all of this (hence the asking Mommy, when will my hair grow back.) so I tried to explain to the little girl that not all girls have to have long hair. Of course I also looked for her mom (NO WHERE TO BE FOUND!). It is heartbreaking to us but majority of the time our children really are oblivious. :) It's a good thing.
