(the samples in this post use Its a Celebration and Birthday Basics)
Ok I think I missed something! Maybe when I was sleeping the past 10 or 12 years.
I am going to share some birthday stuff today since it relates to my post. Each time we have a birthday, we get older, right?
But at WHAT point did “I” get “old”? Seems like yesterday “I” was the one getting the big girl bed, now its my youngest baby :C
You know you are getting old when the “kid” at the grocery store calls you Ma’am, instead of checking you out.
You know you are old when a guy holds the door open JUST because you have 3 kids you are trying to wrangle, along with your grocery cart, and he gives you the “look” You know the “look” the “Oh thank god that isn’t me-poor woman” look. Not the “oh she is HOT” look! LOL!
You know you are old when you don’t get carded for ANYTHING!!!
You know you are old when you DO have a sitter, and the mere thought of getting home even near mid-night makes you think “Oh no! I’m going to be so tired tomorrow”, when you use to stay up till 2 am dancing!! Then pop awake at 6am to go to work, without feeling like you needed a nap, or would die! OR needed to drink 4 cups of coffee to stay up.
You know you are old when you mention a character to a show, maybe even a song from your childhood, and someone says “WHAT”? “Who” is that????
Maybe Im being sensitive-Im going to turn 30 VERY soon-in May! Then THIS incident happened and it really did me in! It made me think when did “I” get “old”?
Jason and I were at a gathering, and while we were there one of the teen girls (like 17) was pouting. Her mom say’s “Honey what is the matter with you?” “Why are you sulking?” ” Knock it off”
Her response ” Cause, Im like totally bored to death” “Everyone here is so old” “Its boring”
I GASPED! I said “What!” Im not old! I’m not BORING!!! When did I get added in to the Old population, Im only 29. I remember 17 like yesterday.”
The girl says ” Yeah, 29 is definitely OLD”
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I remember my mom’s 30th birthday like yesterday!
I feel like Im at LEAST 22!!! No way do I feel I look like the “old” soccer mom’s. WHEN did I become them? HOW did I miss that?
Now Im REALLY dreading turning 30-BLECH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im sure some of you may relate. I guess we all get there. If you haven’t YET, Im so happy for you! LOL!
So here are some cards. I’d love to hear if you had a moment, when you realized YOU were older than YOU thought! LOL!
Here is another one-just to end this post an a HAPPY note-
Till tomorrow!

I feel you with the old thing. I miss the “hot” days..LOL! BTW love all your new PTI samples!
Hey I am 51 will be 52 years old and I still ride Damians scooter , It makes me feel young. You are only as old as you feel and I feel like a teenager half ti,e time. When I was on his scooter my sisters told me they were not picking me up if i fell. I even work out twice a week. Take care Susan
So funny! I just had something similar happen, and I’m 27! I was at church and there were two sweet little girls (one in 4th grade and one in 5th) playing with my son during an event we were having. I was in the room the whole time. When we were leaving, I was in my car waiting for my husband, and the 4th grader walked up. I thanked her for playing with Cameron and told her I always love hanging out with her. Her response? “Yeah, keeps you young, I guess!” YIKES! And to add insult to injury, she then “corrected” herself by saying, “Well, I guess you are KINDA young.” HA! Gotta love kids anyway… 😉
i’m 26 and I went to my Sr. brother’s high school games and I relized that i’m getting older when I saw how silly high school girls act! But I too don’t think I am old I’ve even been charged for a high school ticket as my husband walked into the game with my 2 year old son…..and I ;ve caught myself telling people i’m 23, without even a doubt….
Hi Lauren! Here is what I ‘take away’ from your blog…I take away inspiration, to try new idea’s, colour schemes or layouts. I ‘take away’ some happiness in my heart thtankful that you share yourart work with us all! I ‘take away’ satisfaction that there is someone else out there who is ‘stampendent’ & proud of it!
Mos tof all I ‘take away’ joy at seeeing your cards!
Thanks,
Sunshine, NZ
I was laughing hard when i read the grocery comments and the staying out late and saying about being tired in morning… All of your comments are so true … I can believe I will be middle aged this year! and I have a child going into HS. in Sep of this year… Now that is old to when your first born is going to HS.
Lauren, i went out for a couple of hours today and come back and you have posted another 2 fab cards.. lol …i cant keep up with you, you amaze me with your ideas and energy.
thank you.
chriss x
OH!! yeah lover your B-day cards they are sooo… great… thank you for sharing
Lauren, you just made me old!! If you’re old at 29 going on 30, then I’ve got one foot on the banana peel and one in the grave at 40, with one kid a sophmore in HS and one in 6th grade. LOL 🙂 You’re making me tired my friend. Forget stamping, I need a nap.
Awwwwwww Lauren… it’s true what they say you’re only as old as you feel…so girl start feeling young. I had serious issues with 30…even anxiety. That was almost two years ago. Now I love being 30 and think of 30 as more mature, not old. I had to laugh at the post above about how silly high school girls act (hey we were all there once)…and when I think about my 20s I think about the awakening to life and who I was. Well now that I am in my 30s I know who I am and what I want and setting goals is so much more meaningful. Hang in there. You are a young in my books. BTW, LOVE your cards today.
Hey I am 29, turning 30 in July and I am NOT old! So that means there is no way you can be old either k?
I knew I was old when my doctor, dentist, kid’s teacher…were all YOUNGER than me! How did THAT happen?!?
I’m going out of town for a week, but have to bring my laptop with JUST to keep up with you! 🙂 Thanks for sharing your talents and humor!!
I guess it hit most home when a friend of my daughters asked a question which started like this “Back when you were alive did they have…..” Geez, I at least thought I looked Alive!
You are too funny! I am 42 so way ahead of you girlie. I think the one time I felt old and didn’t like it was when we had a family picture done and when it was hanging up on the wall I looked at myself and thought OMG I have a June Cleaver haircut. I soon changed my hairstyle after that and got some hipper clothes. I was only about 33 at the time so it was way too soon to feel like an old fuddy duddy. I didn’t have my kids until I was 30 – now that makes you feel old.
One more story to share with you. I have a lot of gray hair and only color it about twice a year. I took my boys for haircuts one day and they got their hair spray painted green. Daddy took them to the truck to wait while I had my hair cut. When done, I came out to the truck and asked them if they liked mommy’s haircut. They looked me over and said “wow, Mommy – you got silver spray paint on your hair”. Needless to say, I made another hair appointment to get my hair colored.
LOL. You made me laugh, you’re such an old fart! (LOLOL JK!!) I know what you mean though. Here’s my little “old” story:
I went to get my haircut on Saturday. I always go to the same girl (yes I’m saying girl not woman:-)) and you know how it is you chit chat etc, which is nice. We were talking about TV Shows, Lost, Desperate Housewives etc. But then I was like it is not like it used to be. Now it seems to be all reality shows. I started mentioning the shows I used to love Melrose, 90210 etc she didn’t really say much about those. I didn’t think much of it. Until I said how I remember every friday night when I was young watching DALLAS with my mom. She look at me like what? And she actually said “What is Dallas?” I almost fell off the chair. I thought she was late 20s at least, I guess I also figure everyone knows What Dallas is and not the city. I asked her how old she was and she said 22!! OMG! I felt old right then.
Ok who else remembers Dallas, don’t make me feel old!!!!! LOLOLOL!!
Lauren you are not getting old 30 is the new 20! LOLOL. It’s just a number right? I can’t believe I’m going to be 35 this summer! But recently I had someone (granted an old lady) tell me I look 25! Nice! Like that 17 year old I used to think 30 was old as well.
Your cards are great and congrats on the new Guest Design spot you are one busy lady!!!! Now I’m off to try and make something!
OMGsssh!!! When you mentioned going to bed at 2 in the morning & getting up at 6 to go to work I thought…how DID we do that??? Now we get so tired & I DON’T want to get up that early anymore. I knew I was getting old when my son turned 30 and now he just turned 33!!! Do I feel old??? Heck YES!!! Can you imagine how your mom feels!!! Well at least I have my daughter…she makes me feel YOUNG!!! She is 27, Yikes…I may have a melt down when SHE turns 30???
I have discovered that the “9” years are way worse than the milestones. 29, 39, and now 49 fill me with a year of dread about turning the next decade number.
I will be the big 5-0 in April and I realize that every decade is better than the next. If you are happy and have an enthusiasm for life, you will always look younger than you are. Enjoy every moment, every day, every year. They provide you with all of those wonderful experiences to scrapbook! And making cards to send to others – sometimes for no reason at all – brings so much joy to others. Keep on doing what you’re doing because it keeps all of us inspired, no matter how old we are!
I can relate in a somewhat different way. I am 42 and a few years ago, when my kids were 3 and 2 years old-yes, we got a late start on having kids-EVERYWHERE I went people assumed I was my kids’ grandmother!!! WHAT!?! I’m sure it didn’t help that I went prematurely gray…but c’mon, look at my face and tell me you still think I’m a grandma. So, I caved and started coloring my hair. Not one grandma comment since I did that. I don’t like coloring my hair, but I like being called a grandma less.
Now, don’t get me wrong being a grandma is going to be great and I know some terrific grandmas…I just don’t want people to think I am one~yet! :o)
Great blog, by the way! I’m really enjoying what you share!
LOL!!! OMgosh, I am so with you on this one. I will be 30 in Dec, so you have a few months on me but that is it. I started reading your post and had to laugh and then had to share this with my husband and sister-in-law. The funny thing is is that we were talking about this today. We are on vacation right now and visiting with a old friend of my hubby as well. My hubby, sister-in-law, hubby’s friend, and I were all hanging out and laughin and reminiscing. Next thing we know it is 1 am, we wake up at 8am or so and, Oh man, we were exhausted.
Then I remember when I was early 20s and would stay out all night and then have to wake up to be at work and it was nothing.
Life comes at you fast I am sure that most people are not happy with the place they are in now but it is cool. I love being a mom and would not want to go back to being a teenager or early 20s and be in the dating scene again.
Life is good if you allow it to be. I always look at my boys and see them playing and I just have to smile and then all my horror of being 30 goes away.
I am sure as someone said before, after we hit 30 we will look back and wonder why we were so worried about hitting the big 3-0.
Thanks for all the laughs and great inspiration you share with us.
I am going to hit 35 this year. 🙂 I don’t mind. Congrats! Gorgeous cards. Jennie
HAHAHA! Hey Lauren
I’ll be 30 in Oct and I work with a bunch of 19-21 year olds. (I waitress) All they talk about is going out and partying, and it’s really hard for me not to miss those days. But when I think about getting ready to go out, it makes me tired…haha~ too much work involved!! Especially when you have a 2 year old and 2 -3 month old puppies…..I’m getting tired just thinking about it! I think I had my mid-mid life crisis when I was 26..haha it’s really bad if I thought I was getting old then!!!
Oh, and the MA’AM thing KILLS me….especially when it’s from people that you KNOW are only a few years younger than you……=(
I feel your pain, but it can’t be THAT bad to be 30 (at least that’s what I keep telling myself)
=)
Been there! I went through all that. I still hate being called ‘ma’am’. I’m now 34 and because I have kids it’s puts me in the ‘old’ group at family gatherings…I try to be somewhere in between cause let’s face it, I don’t fit in with my younger cousins who are still partying it up, but I don’t fit in with my old aunts who yell at each other cause their all losing their hearing!! There are a few of us in my age range, but they seem to fit in a little better with the older folks than I do… All I can say is that you are only as old as you feel… and hey, maybe you will always be younger than your hubby? I am. 🙂
Honey what I would give to be 30 again! I remember thinking that it was so old, but once you cross over 45 you really start to think you’re entering the dark side!! Enjoy it!
I am going to be 50 in July and still have yet to feel old. My youngest is only 11 years old (actually 12 this month) and I always say you are only as old as your youngest child. The advantage of being older is that of maturity and the added wisdom that we learn from year to year. Age is a blessing not a curse if we chose it to be. I feel truly blessed.
Lauren
Just because we are a actually year older and may look older, does not mean we have to feel older. So feel as young as you want and who cares what anyone thinks!!!
Example: My sister in law and I were talking about Alice Cooper (of all people) and my niece said
“Alice Cooper, who is she?”
We just laughed!!!
LOL Lauren! Girl you crack me up! I think you are only as old as you feel…if you feel 22…then that’s GREAT! I try to stay young, not by eating right and exercising though….rofl!
Last week at the hockey game some young men beside my girlfriend and I said, excuse us LADIES….I was wow….I am a lady?! haha! Then when we talked about it at work the next day, the secretary told me it’s when they say Ma’am that you are old!
well Lauren I think you got old between your last post and this post! LOL! Seriously, you can’t let the number of years you are determine how old you are; it really is how you think! My oldest daughter is just a few years younger than you!
I am turning 30 this year, and your post really hit home. I mean seriously, I don’t remember thinking thirty was old when I was younger!! The comment about the being home by midnight and dancing til 2am is so true it is scary, I am just happy I am not the only one out there with the same feelings!!
Laughing with you on this post! I don’t think I’ve had any situations (yet) where a stranger or someone made me feel old, but at 27 and still single….I have to say I get wondering “How old is too old to get married and still have kids?” It helps when I’m around my single friends, though – at least they know how it feels!
I can’t help but laugh. I can relate to you all. I won’t tell you my age, it really isn’t necessary – but I am a grandmother and my two sons are older than most of you!!
The one and only time I felt old was when I turned 30 – there must be something about that age. I guess it is because undeneath it all, none of us thought we would ever get to be 30 when we were younger.
Seems like yesterday when I was the youngest. Yongest in the family, youngest to get married, youngest to have children. The doctors and dentists and all the ‘important’ people were all decades older than me.
NOW I am the oldest. My parent are gone – I am the next one to go . . . .
Don’t have a fit about your age, enjoy every year that goes by – they go by faster and faster the older you get. What I wouldn’t give to be 30 or 40 or 50 again!!
It really is true though – you are only as old as you feel. ( I still feel like I am 18 – until I look in the mirror ) Act young and you will stay young for a long long time.
Gee, I’m turning 50 in May and sure don’t feel it! I think you’re as young as you feel but those numbers turn over faster and faster as you get older. Keep yourself happy by doing things you love to do and remember that 30 is only a number!
Aww now, it feels like the end of the world, but you WILL survive.. promise! I cried like a baby when i turned 30. I just turned 39 for the first time this past January.. I refuse to grow old, so I will just stay this age for the rest of my life. Heck, I already dye my hair, whats another 50 yrs of it? lol
Lauren,
You are only as old as you feel..or let yourself feel. I’m 45 and don’t feel it. It’s only a number.
Wait until you hit 50 – things start to creak etc. then you will feel old. You are young – enjoy it.
If it makes you feel any better, I think you’re VERY young! Oh, to be 29 again… I was 42 in December, and I’ve had all of those “you know you’re old when” things happen to me! I’ve decided that the key to feeling young is to hang out with people who are older than you! Then you’re always the young one! 🙂 Really, though, since my kids are 15, 13, 6 and 4, sometimes I’m the “young mom” and sometimes I’m the “young mom”. Just feel good about you — no matter how old you are! To have so many accomplishments and to have experienced so much in your 29 years says so much about you. You’re stronger than most people — young or old!! 🙂
Oh, and all your samples are fabulous! It’s no wonder that PTI wants you to design for them! 🙂
Ok my OLD moment came several years ago at the grocery store – right at the height of “Friends” and Jennifer Aniston’s haircut was all the rage…I was standing behind another woman and her teenage son. One of the magazines had a headline about Jennifer Aniston “The Hottest Hair Since Farah!” The kid looked at it and asked his mom, “Who’s Farah?” Ugh. In 6 short days Iwill be creeping closer and closer to 40.
I have enjoyed reading everybody’s comments about age. I do think we all reach a point in our life, where an event or comment makes us feel old. I just turned 42 this past week and I’m happy with that, but I really dreaded turning 40. Boy …. my thirties really flew by quickly. Just recently, I read someone’s blog and she said, “I’m not old …. like in my forties” LOL! For a split second this made me feel old and then I laughed about this. I laughed because I remember saying the exact same thing when I was in my early twenties. I guess what goes around, comes around LOL! The only thing that makes me feel old is the physical changes that start once you get in your forties …. a few laugh lines and a few silvers, but I’m still the same person inside who feels 29 and that’s what counts the most. I truly believe that if you’re happy with your life, age will never be an ongoing issue for you. As someone else said, “enjoy every minute, every day and every year”!
Lauren, I forgot to leave a comment about your umbrella card. It’s a very eye catching card and the pattern paper you used makes it so pretty. I can think of a lot of different messages to use on this card which would make it suitable for a variety of different occasions.
Hey Lauren. 30 is a big milestone. I turned 30 two weeks after giving birth to my first born so I didn’t dwell on it. On my 40th birthday I was feeling good, looking better than I ever had- I had lost some weight and was feeling good. Now I’m 44 and I start to realize I’m not getting any younger. One of my feeling old moments was when my husband and I were watching tv and an ad came on for the movie, “Cutting Edge 3”. It’s an iceskating movie. He says to me, “I can’t believe they’re making a sequel to a 20 year old movie.” No! That movie can’t be 20 years old! When did we start talking about things from 20 years ago? Are you kidding me? I googled the original Cutting Edge movie. It’s only 16 years old. Close enough to 20 I guess.
cute and fun birthday cards! I am now 44, as of last friday…I started feeling old when my daughter hit high school and started dating….it seems like yesterday I met her father in high school. When I reall felt old was when I was looking at pics from our high school reunion we were not able to attend, and I thought wow these guys are looking old, and then realized I probably do too…my body is starting to tell me I am getting old too..I think that is the worse!
Hey you –
I hit the big 3-0 last year, and you know what?? It really wasn’t that bad. I had a more difficult time that Shannon was turning 4, where DOES the time go??? The first time I ‘felt’ old was here at work…college kids were home for summer and working int he cafe…”what can I get for you MA’AM?” Ew. I said, “Oh, pleeease don’t call me ma’am, I promise, I’m not that much older than you.” He said “alright then sweetie, what can I do for you” I thanked him kindly and enjoyed the rest of my day. He called me sweetie every day after…I’d MUCH rather be called sweetie than MA’AM anyday 😉
My birthday is Wednesday but I do not look old at all (if I do say so myself) – I’ll be 37. What really makes me FEEL old though is thinking that next year I’ll be going to my 20 year high school class reunion. WOW – that makes me feel old just typing it! I swear it feels like yesterday!!
That cupcake card was super cute – easy to mass produce, which I like to do with bday cards sometimes.
Oh to be almost 30 again…I just had my 43rd birthday and I suspect, without actual confirmation from the doctor, that I am going through menopause. On one hand, I’m enjoying not having my monthly visitor, on the other hand, I really feel old(er).
You know, Lauren, you have to remember a saying that someone gave me when I turned 40 – Turning older is inevitable. Growing up is optional! Hang onto that thought….some days I feel really, really old and other days I feel pretty “springy”!
Well, I’ve decided I’m 30 forever!!! And I realized it when I was talking to some “kids” that had just graduated from college and I was so excited for them and I said “Oh I went there…..” we were talking about the campus, etc…. and his comment was: “It’s not there anymore…you must have gone there a LONG time ago.” WHATEVER!!!!
My kids keep me young! Love the creations today!
It’s so interesting to read everyone’s response on the age thing. But, I have to go with Wendy’s reponse. We don’t have a choice on growing old, but we do have a choice on how we want to grow. I am 27, although I couldn’t not tell you how many times I feel like I am going on 50. I have seen and gone through more than most people see in their lifetime. But, one thing I do cherish is the ones that we love and how we love ourselves. Stay positive and know that you can do anything you want to do in your lifetime. Embrace life and know that in the end you have fulfilled it. God Bless Everyone.
Well, I guess I’m the oldest of your blog readers, 61!!! It doesn’t bother me at all. I am richly blessed with family, friends, cyber-friends, and GREAT, GREAT blogs. I love being called grandma and grammy(great-granddaughter). You don’t change because of your age the things around you change and each step is to a greater blessing…life as you never could have imagined it.
I love your style, the cards are so cute. TFS.
Hi Lauren,
I totally know what you mean, I am also turning 30 this May… how did that sneak up on me? it still feels like that birthday should be so far away…didn’t I just graduate? Anyways I find myself feeling old when I catch thoughts like this going through my mind: that sales clerk can’t possibly be old enough to hold a job! or How can those kids (LOL) where those skinny jeans? that just can’t be comfortable! Anyhow, Happy Birthday to us! and we’ll just try not to focus on the number of candles ;^}
Hi Lauren,
I feel that age is a state of mind…some days I feel 20 and some 80! My “baby” just turned 40 and I am Grandma to 4 great kids. Age is how you look at things. I choose to look at my life and count the blessings. I feel blessed because there are so many good things that have come my way. Life has it’s hard times too, but we learn to face them with courage, grace and the strenght we have been gifted with.
You, my dear, are a beautiful example of that! I enjoy my visits here and am awed by your talent. I also feel so happy that we all love creating and sharing this stamping time no matter our ages.
Ad
p.s. was “carded” while buying a couple of bottles of wine this weekend. Don’t know if it’s the law or just an ego booster…guess which I will choose!
Okay first…I would have rinsed that sassy little 17 year old’s mouth out. Talking to someone that way! YIKES! My oldest is 17-and she knows better than that.
Okay second…you are NOT old. 29 is still young. And getting old does have its advantages…what, I am not sure. 😉
But I love having the door held for me. No matter if they think I am hot or not. My hubby does-and that is the only one I care that feels this way.
But I do hold the door for mothers-I remember “those days” struggling to get into a store holding one, pushing the stroller, and guiding the basket. It is rough. So my heart feels for those moms. Plus, US moms should stick together! We need to help each other. Moms did it for me…and I do it now for them. 🙂
So poo-poo on that 17 yr old. They have zits, boy troubles, lots of homework, and don’t know what their future is. We oldies, know our face has no zits,we don’t have homework-hee hee, and we have great futures(stamping…..yeah!!)
I’m LOL! You are certainly not old, you don’t look old and your spirit is obviously young and playful! 🙂
When I was 22 I was sitting in a park reading a book and 2 little kids were laughing when they passed next to me and said “bonjour madame!”, now that made me feel like a dinosaur! But at the same time I was working as a nurse and some patients would tell me “Are you sure you are a nurse (and know how to draw blood!), you look awfully young, you’re sure you’re not a student?….”
People always think I am younger than I am, when I was younger it was annoying, now it’s convenient! 😀 😉 But over time, with the wrinkles, and the age spots on the face, and everything sagging, I am definitely starting to look my age! LOL 😀
But I do remember when I was a teen, thinking that 40 was like “seniors” LOL! 😉
I think in your case, it’s because you had your kids young, seeing your kids, people assume you just “look” young! 😉
I think you look younger than 22 actually! I alwys thought I looked young for my age…until the last two years. Next month I’ll be 35. i don’t know if I look it or not, (not sure what ANY age is supposed ot look like anymore for that matter what with people botoxing eveything else!) but I definitely am surprised some days by what I see when I look in the mirror! The past couple months, however, I am getting a lot of grey hairs wich is new thing for me! I don’t know if it’s having 2 boys or stamp designing, but coloring is actually something I might start doing instead of plucking!! Very weird, I’m afraid I’m going to go to bed one night a sassy brunette and wke looking like Cruella Deville!! One book I’d recommend though, the funniest thing I’d read in a long time is “No! I Don’t Want to Join a Book Club” by Virginia Ironside. Think Bridget Jones at age 60. It was a hilarious look at one woman’s getting older and the ifferent thigns that happen in thisstage of life. I am nowhere near this age, but I could still relate to all kids of things she was saying, both physical and emotional, and the fatct that she still had moements when she sounded really cool, girlish just shows no matter what your age in many ways you still like the same person you “were” so long ago.
“We can relate”…
It’s only a NUMBER…
They say “You are as Old as You feel”
OK……”I’m still……hummmmm 29.
Sweet Birthday cards!
Love the design and colors!
