I remember a movie I saw 10 years ago in France with a belgian boy who had down syndrome. I think he was playing the role of an 18 years old boy or so, so he was maybe 20 at the time. This movie was beautiful and touching (you couldn't watch without your box of tissues ;-) ) and also funny and it was a hit in France. It was called "le 8ème jour" ("the eight day") and I checked, Netflix has it : http://www.netflix.com/Movie/The_Eighth_Day/70060495?trkid=189530&strkid=1008024597_0_0

I think about you every morning when I drop Noah at school. His school is for autistic kids but they have a few kids with other disabilities and there's a little boy with down syndrome in his class. Every time I see him I think about Alexa.

As for who touched my life you know it's my son. He amazes me every day. Every little step is a ray of sun and his laugh is just intoxicating! :-) ♥

That's exciting, Lauren! There was a very popular weekly show on TV a while back in which the starring role was played by a young man with Down's. He was very good and the show was well loved. I can't remember what the heck the name of it was, though. Something like "The Good Life"? A friend of mine has a child with Down's syndrome and there's a lot people don't realize about what all that entails. She's been a wonderful mom and I admire her greatly! I know Alexa is well loved and cared for, too.

Thank you for sharing this post with us. It's ironic that I was just talking to someone who has a family member pregnant and is worried that something is possibly 'wrong' with the baby. They're awaiting tests. I told them of your story with Alexa and that even though she has down's, she is still a blessing and through her, God has used her disability in many wonderful ways. Knowing you and Alexa has blessed my own life as I'm sure many others.
It's late, it's been an emotional day for me and I'm sure my words aren't coming out the way I intend them to. I'll watch the sites you mentioned tomorrow when I have more time and pass them along to the person I was talking to.
Thank you again for passing along the information. My love to you and Alexa (your whole family too).
Hugs,
Renee

Lauren - I will certainly visit both the sites that you listed today. I will, however wait until I get home from work. It doesn't take much these days to get my tears streaming, so I better watch them at home.

I hope this day finds little Miss Alexa doing well from her chemo this week. She is so blessed to have been given to such a wonderful mom.

Lauren, Many people in my local Downs group have this movie. I am unable to watch it, I think I will sob through the whole thing! I completely understand what you mean when you said it is to emotional!
How is Alexa doing?

Lauren ~ Thanks for the heads up on this movie...They had a special on "The Today Show" about how parents are now letting their DS kids have more independence and doctors have stopped talking about institutions because the kids are showing so much promise. As you may remember my brother Mikey had Downs. He lived to be 48 years old and the doctors said that he lived to be that old because of all of the love that was given to him. I believe it...I am sure you have read "Angels Unaware." It is a book written by Dale Rogers (Roy Roger's wife)...It is an old book, but very touching. Thanks again for sharing about the movie :)

Hi Lauren ... I saw the trailer, for ""Child King"" while at the move theatres approx. three weeks ago :) It certainly caught my attention and made me feel all ~warm & fuzzy~ after just watching it for those few minutes :)

I will be sure to see it once it hits theatres and will certainly let you know how it is "reviewed" here and in our local Toronto papers. It certainly is a positive step forward for anyone dealing with a disability :)

Hope Alexa is doing well after her recent chemo this week~~I will keep her in my thoughts.

WOOHOO!!! I am so excited! I have a 15 year old sister with Downs and so this really excites me. I, too, am so proud of this young man and his parents. I'm anxious to see the movie.

I want you to know how much I admire you for your honest and open dipiction of your life with Alexa. What a BEAUTIFUL young lady she is. My hope and prayer is that she will be blessed with good health in the new year. She is most certainly a sweet Princess.
