Ok so maybe I AM turning into a crazy dog lover!
I call her Daisy Doodle, and Alexa calls her Crazy Daisy. Its really cute to see the kids participate in her care by following commands, and giving rewards, putting her in and out of the crate, feeding, brushing, and of course playing.
I had to share this photo of Daisy with her adorable PINK doggy coat 😀
C’mon you KNOW I was going to have to get her outfits! LOL! She is too adorable not too. She actually likes it. (I think). She is very compilable with whatever I want to do. I think its great I get to start her out like that 😀
But, I had to share my success with all of you, since you did help me with all your advice 😀 So thanks. I especially appreciated the phone calls and emails I received. Really helpful.
Daisy has her first appointment tomorrow, and it should only cost me well over a $100. YIKES :C Now there goes my stocking stuffer’s! LOL! I think she’ll fit in there nicely.
I also want to direct you, who have dogs, to this place—->Ask Me Dogs, that I found, which is like a SCS, but for DOG OWNERS!!! How cool is that? It has an online pet expert that can help with any question, as well as other owner’s give helpful advice.
So I wanted you all to know after all the advice I did the following………………which has lead to success!
No Success Story
Tuesday- I deciding to TRY to let Daisy have the run of the kitchen (used lots of gates), instead of being crated. What’s weird is she goes in the crate at times on her own during the day, and when I leave or can’t watch her every move (today I made my bed, and she found and ate a crayon Alexa left on the floor while coloring ;C). She doesn’t mind it all. No crying, fussing or freaking. Totally happy to chill. Come night time-watch out.
OK Night comes- I have her gated in the kitchen, which is good size, and cord safe :D. I kept her crate open, but thought if she could see us it should work. Our room is off the Kitchen. Well she jumped, and jumped and jumped till she knocked it over! Came into our room, and tried to jump up on our King size bed-Um, yeah, not happening. She cried and cried-so I decided that SLEEP would WIN. I then let Daisy sleepwith us. Jason was so NOT happy. But, you wouldn’t even know she was there. She was very good. She woke me up twice in the middle of the night, by nudging my arm, went out for a potty break, then back to bed. I realized I didn’t want this to be long term, so made the decision for the following night to stick it out, be consistent, and try something that would hopefully work.
Just like kids right?? Now is the time to NOT instill BAD habits.
Now Wednesday Night
I keep her crate open. Put up all the gates in the kitchen. I move her bed to the doorway, where there is the gate, but she can see us sleep (thanks Dawn and Bobbie). I then swaddle her like a baby in this blanket that she dores (it was Noah’s when he was a baby). She loves to be swaddled-funny huh??
I included my t-shirt, and her favorite stuffed squirrel. Left a nightlight on, and ran the DISHWASHER!!! That seemed to help.
She would get up, and just whine, as oppose to bark, and yelp.
I would tell her down (to make her stop jumping on the gate), and then Daisy Bed. It took several times of me getting up and re wrapping her, and putting her there with the commands. So after several trips I stopped getting up but used my voice, and a snap of my fingers (my mom use to do that with our dogs), and VIOLA. She went to her bed and slept 😀 She did wake up at 1:30 and 5 :30 to go out, but then quietly returned to her bed, without fuss!!!
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now here is a photo of her swaddled in her blanket, on our Suede video rocker chair that she has deemed HERS. You can see her little squeeky squirrel she carries around.
She litterally lets me lay her down and wrap her up. Its Hilarious.
Let me go on and say that Daisy is like the best little thing on 4 paws. Seriously, amazing. She is very well behaved, and is already getting some simple commands. I am using one-to two words to teach her.
I am doing the bell thing as suggested for going out to use the “potty”. She will ring the bell on the door sometimes too! She hardly has any accidents-which I am so thankful for.
She has long curly hair in the “back”. Needless to say she has had 3 baths!!! I never bathed a dog before, but she loves it. Stays perfectly still, then lets me dry her, and brush her. She then let Jay and I cut her hair-NO PROBLEM!
I teach her sit, down, treats, eat, out, fast-fast (that means we are here to potty not sniff the entire yard), and then there is crate-go, and bed Daisy.
I just might actually be able to do this.
So my point was thanks for the advice.
I also think we made the best move buying Daisy. She is a great breed for what we as a family were looking for. Plus she is definitely MY DOG. I am HER PERSON!
I felt like picking her was like a Grey’s Anatomy show, when Meridith says to Derick (when he is deciding over her and Addison) “Pick me, choose me, love me” 😀 Yes I am pathetic
That was exactly what I told Jason. I said that is what she is saying. She belongs with us.
He said we made a good choice. She truly is a darling.
OK thats it for my dog insanity. Thanks for bearing with me, as I am so new to this. I know its a stamping blog, but I wanted to share it with you 😀 Plus the beauty of a blog is I will never really know if you read it or not, and I can still throw it out there!
NOW I am really going to get stamping! I think I have a “routine” in place, so it may just happen.
Till tomorrow. Don’t forget Saturday Sketch time 😀

We have 5 children and I put off having a dog for many many years. Four years ago we all decided it was the right time to get a dog. We have a 110lb golden retriever and I LOVE HIM !!!! He goes running with me everyday, is a great companion and I can’t imagine life without him now 🙂
Daisy is ADORABLE !!!! Congrats !!!
Take care.
Corinne
Love, love, love your Daisy stories! It sounds like you are doing a great job training her. I know my Sophie and Gracie likes to sniff every inch of the yard, and with almost two acres – that’s not good. The Grey’s Anatomy line had me laughing – so funny! I am glad the bell is working out. My girls would be lost without their bell. Have fun you and Daisy.
OMW she is adorable!!! SHe looks like a cuddly little ball of fluff!!! Sounds like you are doing a great job of training her!!!! See, it’s not much different that kids!!! I’ve had dogs all my life and can not ever imagine my life without one!!! They are the most amazing friend you could ever have!!!
She is too cute, her pink coat is adorable.
Glad you are finally getting some sleep again, or on the way to getting some!! 😉
stop….she is soooooo cute. I’m glad you are making headway! That’s great news. Hoping that this routine continues to work for you all so that you can get back your nighttime 🙂
OMGoodness, OMGoodness, she is precious!!!!!! Fur babies are the best. Love the blanket picture. Good luck, training a puppy is tough, but so worth it in the end. What kind of dog is she?
Love the dog insanity…I am a total dog person so I love hearing about it. She is just precious and you’ve got it right…you are HERS. Not the other way around. 😉
Just so you know, I absolutely love your dog stories and pictures! I have two toy poodles and am the biggest dog lover. I could so understand how you felt when you came home without Daisy the first time. I wanted a third dog and my husband would NOT give in 🙁 It was a yorkipoo and was adorable. So keep those doggie stories comin’. By the way, mine both sleep with us.
OMG! She is so cute. I have a 1 yr old westie that loves to be wrapped in blankets too. She also will go under the covers and is happy there as well. I was not strong enough to let her cry it out at night so she sleeps with us but my thankfully my hubby likes her sleeping with us. I hope things continue to go well for you with her. Having a puppy is a lot of work but it all pays off in the end though. By the way I just discovered your blog and am very inspired by your work and all that you do.
Too cute for words!!! 🙂
I’m tempted to save this as my screensaver… but then, Bandit would be jealous….or perhaps fall madly in love with her!
I’m glad all of you are settling down and getting a little bit more sleep! I bet the kids are just loving her. I know with Bandit, his paws didn’t touch the floor for the first few weeks. They were constantly carrying him around or holding him. LOL That’s probably why he’s a lap-dog now!
Thanks for sharing these with us. I love the pictures.
Puppy hugs and kisses,
Renee
PS. You take remarkable pictures, btw!
Lauren, I am so glad its’ working!! woo hoo! Now, you can just think about in a few weeks she will be able to hold it thru the night and not wake you up at all. Though she may do it outta habit!
Yeah, glad Daisy (my first dog was named Daisy May!) is fitting in so well with your family. You might want to check you local animal shelters to see if they do any kind of rabies clinics in the summer. You have to wait until Daisy is 1 yr old, but it saves a bundle and a portion of the money goes to the shelter. I know the vets don’t like to tell many about it as they don’t make as much, but it helps w/ppl out here who have a ton of dogs and not a lot of money.
The first year we lived here we took our 3 dogs in for their rabies and distemper shots and paid $270 (can you say OUCH?!!). I started volunteering at the local Humane Society and they host rabies clinics in the summer. I paid $60 per dog woo hoo. For rabies and distemper. Can’t beat that!
I will get those recipes out to you for homemade doggie biscuits. Did you check out our newest addition on my blog? He’s only 180lbs! hehehe
Bobbie 🙂
Sounds very much the same as the adventure we had with Lucy as a pup. She is 2 now. She is a havanese. Lucy did win out and sleeps in our bed while we watch tv, then when we are ready to sleep we move her over to the recliner in the corner of our room. That is where she spends the night. Now I would have NEVER let my kids get away with this….bad habits and all, but it seems I have softened when it comes to the dog….lol! Looks like Lucy is pregnant and so we might have a litter of puppies in the end of January…..how FUN! Just in time for me to leave them with hubby when I go to CHA….he loves that idea….Glad you are having so much fun with her, she looks like a real sweetheart (love the sweater!)
Yay Lauren!! Progress!! I’m so glad the tips are working! Sounds like you’re doing a great job with her and OH MY WORD she’s gotten CUTER!!! LOL! Those pictures — both of them — should be framed! Seriously. TOO adorable! No wonder you had to have her!
You don’t ever have to apologize for posting what’s going on with YOU on YOUR blog! 🙂 You know we love ya, and we want to know what’s going on with you. We all know there’ll be more cards, but we like the ‘life stuff’ too!
Smooches, Girly!!
Daisy is darling… your family is so lucky to have a mom like you who has so much love to give.
“Congrats”…on welcoming Daisy into your home
and into your hearts. Having a dog to love is so
wonderful…and you do get the love in return!
She is so sweet…love your stories. I love her little
pink sweater…and her squirrel.
You sound like you are doing well with the training.
It does take patience…but they learn fast.
Thanks for sharing your stories and pictures 🙂

That is ONE ADORABLE DOG!!! What a precious little puppy! Now I want one just like her!!! I’m so glad it is working out, and before you know it you will not remember life without her! So fun, congrats again on the newest member of the family!! 😀
Daisy is SOOO adorable, I would have loved for any of my dogs to get wrapped up like she does. Dogs are just the best especially when they are so well behaved and listen. “Persevere” is the key to training a good dog. Enjoy!
She’s too cute!!! You can talk about your Daisy anytime you want Lauren. Congrats on your success with the commands. My dachaund growing up was supposed to be my mom’s dog but decided he was mine instead and was not happy when Ken and I started dating. Can we say severe jealousy? 🙂
You are taking some really cute pics of Daisy too. Keep it up my friend.
Awww…she looks like a stuffed toy. How cute!!! I think (almost) everyone should have a dog.
You’re not crazy. My friend, Kathay, always tells how her Pomeranian, FOXY LADY, has ten coats to wear — including a pink Barbie coat! She has three Poms — two recently from rescue organizations. She loves all her animals so much and has already put thousands into surgeries and medicines for the two newest dogs.
Your dog is so sweet looking! Enjoy! I’m sure she knows she is a member of the family! 🙂
Lauren — as a fellow dog person, I am grinning from ear to ear reading about sweet Lil Daisy! She is sooooo cute! DON’T give me doggie fever — my husband will never forgive you!!!
dogs are pack animals and want to be with their people. many people make the mistake of isolating the dog at sleep time, which the majority of the time does not work well at all.
not that i’m a dog expert but when i trained my mini american eskimo for sleeping i did the following. i put her crate next to my bed. i said it was night night time. she entered the crate and would be quiet with no problems. of course being only 12 weeks, there were the times i had to get up to let her out for potty. that’s to be expected. occassionally at night she would be fussy. i knew she had gone potty recently, so i would put my fingers in the holes of her crate (i was still in bed). she could feel me and would settle down.
no problems.
also, a very important word to teach your dog is “come”. my example. i was walking my dog one day. she was still a puppy, maybe only 4 or 5 months old. while walking, i tripped. i fell face first and in the process let go of the leash. the dog keeps on walking and gets down to the end of the sidewalk. she was reaching the street. i finally got her attention and shouted “come. Belle, come”. she came right to me. Come is a word that is very useful in keeping them from danger when they get away from your control.
anyway, my advice, for what it’s worth. Daisy is adorable and makes me long for a puppy again. enjoy her!
Ok, found it!! I just adore Daisy!! Do you live in Fremont, CA by any chance??? LOL I’d love to be your dog sitter if you are ever in the area. Sounds like Daisy “picked, chose and loves” the right family!! (I’m a huge Grey’s fan) Please keep the pictures coming. I want to see how Daisy grows and I love the stories! Enjoy your new little girl.
