Your tin is adorable! I really love your blog - you are quite inspirational!

Congrats on the new addition too! She's adorable! Remember there is a reason God made puppies so incredibly cute - they're maddening sometimes!! Daisy and your family will adjust though - it just takes time and patience! My advice for training is consistency. My DH and I belong to a dog club and have done training over the years. Consistency is key - if something is wrong, it should always be wrong (or correct, always correct); otherwise you confuse the poor pup. They truly want to please so training issues generally are owner issues, not dog problems!

I'll be joining you this weekend in the insanity! We are going to Michigan to pick out a rottie pup. They are 10 weeks old. We have a 10 1/2 YO and 2 YO rottie currently (and lost 2 angels this year, JayDee 10 1/2 and Harlee 9)! House training in NW Indiana in December and January is cold....brrr...

Lauren, Trust me, it'll get better with Daisy. She just needs to get used to you and the house. For some reason fur babies, like real babies, don't like to be alone at night. Ken says, don't put it in bed with you once because it'll become routine and Jay may not like that.

I was a first time dog owner when I got my Westie and she was a handful! Stubborn, dominant, basically sassy. I took the positive approach to training her and she is a wonderful dog now...still stubborn, but that is natural for her breed. I HIGHLY recommend the following books from Carol Lea Benjamin, you can find them on Amazon

Mother Knows Best: The Natural Way to Train Your Dog, and
Surviving Your Dog's Adolescence: A Positive Training Program

And, i also religiously watched a show called "Good Dog" with Stanley Coren. I learned sooooo much from his show. That was about 5 years ago so I don't know if it is still on...plus it may be a canadian show since he is from BC...but the things I learned from him are still engraved in my brain.

Oops, sorry about the repeat advice. I should have read the other comments before posting mine. :-)
Well, this just gives me the opportunity to say I loved the tin. It's very cute! :-)

Lauren -

Have a GREAT visit with Santa today (I'm reading this a day late). Oh, how fun! I never realized just how wonderful the Make A Wish organization really is.

I'm looking forward to seeing Amber's dance too. They are so precious dancing at that age . Seems like just yesterday my DD was dancing at recitials and nursing homes.

Glad the first night went okay with Daisy. Don't worry, you're going to be a great dog owner. Oh, here's an idea. Take it for what it's worth. Let Daisy sleep with something with your 'smell' on it. Wear an old sweatshirt all day, then give it to her, or sleep with an old, clean blanket then let her have it. It may comfort her.

Okay, gotta run and get the kiddies off to school. Have a great day! I can't wait to see the Smileboxes! :-)

Hugs, Renee

Well congratulations on being a new dog owner!! This will be a big adjustment as you all get used to each other. Did you have to give him the really SAD face?
Anyway, try putting a ticking clock in under a blanket where she sleeps. It will lull her to sleep. Sounds silly but it works! Good luck!

Cute tin! Love those sorts of things!!

Our dogs have always been in a little house. Snickers LOVES hers! She sleeps in it all the time, even when she doesn't have to. Now when she sees me put my coat or shoes on, she heads straight to her house. She is good with Chloe and her house but some of our other dogs became protective of their houses. They would growl if we reached in. It's their place.

Have fun with your puppy! Oh the puppy breath and kisses and teething...so fun!
