Do you get the Lizzie Anne Newsletter? If you do, then you saw THIS Santa tin, using their Holiday Cheer, Santa Simply Single image, and the Snow Flurry. In it fits 4 Ghirardelli Chocolate squares. It was a clear top, magnet tin from Target $1 spot. 3 in a pack! Now don’t run there cause this was a while ago. See, I thend to HOARD things, for occasions such as this
Occasions, what occasion.
Tomorrow is THE day!
I mean the day that Santa Claus comes to pay a visit to our home.
He will be bringing each child their MOST cherished and wanted toy! How cool will that be?
So, now I have to whip up some candy cane style sugar cookies for him, and make another cocoa cone for Mrs. Claus. How exciting.
I think I am more excited than the kids Tomorrow is also Amber’s Christmas Dance recital at our local nursing home. The residents just LOVE it. So, I should have a bunch of Smileboxes to do.
As for right now I am swamped with stuff to get done. Because we got the dog, we didn’t wrap gifts OR get out our cards! What is the point in getting them done so early if I dont mail them out ??
DOG UPDATE:
Thanks for the well wishes Daisy is such a lovey dog. I’m extatic. Don’t worry I’m not going to go all crazy dog lover everyday on ya! This is just an adjustment period
I am EXHAUSTED. Daisy was not happy to be in her crate last night. After hearing much praise from the video, the Dog Whisperer I am having Jason rent it tonight. I am a CLUELESS dog owner. I mean REALLY clueless. I want to do what’s right and make no major boo-boo’s. Like last night I kept telling her it was ok, go to sleep blah blah blah blah, while she barked, whined and cried. Finally at 3 am I looked online and read NOT to do that! GREAT!!!! I’m on my way to being a fabulous dog owner already.
She is really good and sweet, just does not want to be alone-at night! LOL! By the sounds of it, this is normal.
outside. I don’t know.
Tomorrow I have tons to do, and hope she will be up to it. I miss my stamp room.
Ok I’m off!
Thanks for looking.

Cute tin Lauren! How old is Daisy? If she’s been used to sleeping with her siblings and mom, she is probably just lonely in her crate and maybe a little cold. Our dog was 4 months when we got her and she took to the crate just fine.
We have a blanket in there so she can snuggle up in it and we also mostly cover her crate at night. If we forget to cover it, she’ll often wake up at 6 am whining because it’s a little cold or too light or something. I think that covering it gives it a cozier den feeling.
We watched the Dog Whisperer when we first got Lucy (our dog). He has some good tips. The most important thing is to remember that dogs aren’t people and you can’t comfort them. If they are freaked out or scared and you try to console them then you are just reinforcing their freaked out behavior. It’s really hard, but it’s best to ignore them when that happens.
I hope Daisy sleeps better tonight!
Love the tin! One more tip – put something of YOURS in the crate with Daisy – something you’ve worn if possible, that has your scent and you don’t care if you never wear again, lol! Also, an old fashioned ticking alarm clock is comforting to a puppy (mimics a heartbeat). Hope you get some sleep tonight!
Congrats on getting the new doggie! Trust me, it will get better! I was clueless when we got our dog too, but it all worked out and I wouldn’t know what to do without her! I just wanted to stop by and say I love your work!!! I made a couple of the Ghiradelli boxes that you did on here, and I LOVE THEM! Keep it up!
OHHH How sweet… (Santa coming to your house) that must me so beautiful.. my DS2 made me laugh yesterday as he told me (he’s 4) I am going to sleep all day X-mas eve so I will be awake all night I will not miss when Santa comes I just have to see him! lo lol!!!
I can’t wait to see your pics of tomorrow.. we will see them right 🙂
Have a wonderful night and FYI OH I COULD JUST EATTTTT Daisy how freaking cute is she!!!!! OHHH now I want a doggie! lol
Daisy will get better. I agree with putting an old t shirt or something of yours in with her. I did the ticking clock with my girls when they first came home.
For outside time. I got a little bell (cat toy dept) and hung it on a long ribbon. Each time I went to take the puppy outside, I would swipe the bell with their paw. They now go to ring the bell when they need a potty break. Works great.
Oh, yeah, the tin is really cute. hehe
Cute tin Lauren, and I love all the other things you do. I have just recently came upon your blog (about 2 weeks) and I am in AWE of everything you do.
I do have a couple of tips on the Doggie situation. I am not sure how old Daisy is, but just remember to only feed her at regular intervals. Do not leave a dish of food out all day long so she can graze. Feed her, give her 20-30 min to eat, and if she eats or doesn’t eat, pick up the dish until her next feeding. When she does eat, keep a close eye on her 20-30 minutes after she eats. Normally, dogs will do their business soon after eating.
I agree with covering up a portion of the crate. Our dog has a blanket over the back half of her crate. What this does it creates a ‘cave’ like feeling, and as canines are den animals, the like to feel secure. Also, if Daisy is a little whinny in the crate, get up take her to the door, let her out to do her business and then put her back in her crate. Puppies can usually hold their business for as many hours as they are old (i.e. 4 months = 4 hours) And sometimes you just have to get some ear plugs! It should be better in about a week.
Also, I have a book that I really like. It is called “Great Dogs, Good Owners” by Brian Kilcommons. Your local library should have it.
Sorry for the long post!

Hi Lauren! Super cute tin! My very first dog growing up was a Cock-a-Poo. It’s funny that they’re considered a “breed” now. Back then, she was just a mutt. LOL! They are sweet dogs!
Don’t beat yourself up for not knowing how to be a good dog owner. Heck…I probably have broken all kinds of Dog Whisperer rules. Want to know what we did with our Labrador Retriever puppy when we first got him home. My husband and I let him sleep in bed with us for the first few nights. I did this so I would know when he stirred so I could let him outside to go potty. It worked! No whining…no accidents. Of course now that he is big enough, he just wants to hop up in bed with us (and of course he is much bigger now). You can see pictures of my puppy on my blog in October.
Puppies are great!

Cute tin! Love those sorts of things!!
Our dogs have always been in a little house. Snickers LOVES hers! She sleeps in it all the time, even when she doesn’t have to. Now when she sees me put my coat or shoes on, she heads straight to her house. She is good with Chloe and her house but some of our other dogs became protective of their houses. They would growl if we reached in. It’s their place.
Have fun with your puppy! Oh the puppy breath and kisses and teething…so fun!
Well congratulations on being a new dog owner!! This will be a big adjustment as you all get used to each other. Did you have to give him the really SAD face?
Anyway, try putting a ticking clock in under a blanket where she sleeps. It will lull her to sleep. Sounds silly but it works! Good luck!
Love that tin–gorgeous and creative as usual.
Hope Alexa got her card I sent.
What a cute pup–congrats and I am sure it will get better!!! Have fun with Santa tomorrow!!!
Congratulations too on your card in Crafts n Things–just got my issue today.
I am adding you to my blogroll!!!
Hugs!Cammie
Lauren –
Have a GREAT visit with Santa today (I’m reading this a day late). Oh, how fun! I never realized just how wonderful the Make A Wish organization really is.
I’m looking forward to seeing Amber’s dance too. They are so precious dancing at that age . Seems like just yesterday my DD was dancing at recitials and nursing homes.
Glad the first night went okay with Daisy. Don’t worry, you’re going to be a great dog owner. Oh, here’s an idea. Take it for what it’s worth. Let Daisy sleep with something with your ‘smell’ on it. Wear an old sweatshirt all day, then give it to her, or sleep with an old, clean blanket then let her have it. It may comfort her.
Okay, gotta run and get the kiddies off to school. Have a great day! I can’t wait to see the Smileboxes! 🙂
Hugs, Renee
Oops, sorry about the repeat advice. I should have read the other comments before posting mine. 🙂
Well, this just gives me the opportunity to say I loved the tin. It’s very cute! 🙂
I gotta have that Santa stamp! cute cute cute! Good luck withy our little mop top of a puppy, I too was a clueless dog owner until we got our St. Bernard, (not my choice by the way) it’s work but soon she’ll be part of the family!
I was a first time dog owner when I got my Westie and she was a handful! Stubborn, dominant, basically sassy. I took the positive approach to training her and she is a wonderful dog now…still stubborn, but that is natural for her breed. I HIGHLY recommend the following books from Carol Lea Benjamin, you can find them on Amazon
Mother Knows Best: The Natural Way to Train Your Dog, and
Surviving Your Dog’s Adolescence: A Positive Training Program
And, i also religiously watched a show called “Good Dog” with Stanley Coren. I learned sooooo much from his show. That was about 5 years ago so I don’t know if it is still on…plus it may be a canadian show since he is from BC…but the things I learned from him are still engraved in my brain.
Great tin idea LAuren.. Dont fret about the dog. Shell get better … Have you tried a ticking clock… Friends of ours tried that and it seemed to work.

Lauren, Trust me, it’ll get better with Daisy. She just needs to get used to you and the house. For some reason fur babies, like real babies, don’t like to be alone at night. Ken says, don’t put it in bed with you once because it’ll become routine and Jay may not like that.
Your tin is adorable! I really love your blog – you are quite inspirational!
Congrats on the new addition too! She’s adorable! Remember there is a reason God made puppies so incredibly cute – they’re maddening sometimes!! Daisy and your family will adjust though – it just takes time and patience! My advice for training is consistency. My DH and I belong to a dog club and have done training over the years. Consistency is key – if something is wrong, it should always be wrong (or correct, always correct); otherwise you confuse the poor pup. They truly want to please so training issues generally are owner issues, not dog problems!
I’ll be joining you this weekend in the insanity! We are going to Michigan to pick out a rottie pup. They are 10 weeks old. We have a 10 1/2 YO and 2 YO rottie currently (and lost 2 angels this year, JayDee 10 1/2 and Harlee 9)! House training in NW Indiana in December and January is cold….brrr…
