I wasn’t going to post this one today-sorry its late but I had a super busy day! Alexa had a physical today in the morning, and I had yet another dentist appointment for a part 2 cleaning and a filling! So having the 2 girls drinking wine on this card really suits my mood right now!
If you are petrified of the dentist-like myself then dont read this cause I am NOT going to be so upbeat and encouraging, Im actually FREAKIN out!
If you want all the details on the card I will post those below the dotted line so you can skip my blah blah blah if you choose!
——————————————————————————————————————
OK First off to refresh the memory I finally went to the dentist after a whole decade of neglect-the news wasn’t purty-11 cavities and about $2,500 worth of work out of pocket over time/after insurance! RIP OFF!!!!
So I had part 1 cleaning a few weeks ago-not too bad!
Well today I thought I would climb through the roof!
I went to have my part 2 cleaning, and my worst most expensive cavity filled. Upon exam they decided to work on the one NEXT to that area for some reason I dont remember anymore! Upon drilling I began to feel shooting pain in my jaw and neck. Procedure stopped and more Novocaine given. This happened 5 times!!!!!
So to add to my fabulous day after drilling she stops and says “You need a route canal” “I am going to have to put in a temp. one, and you will have to come back”
I was like what?! I thought that one wasnt bad blah blah blah.
Then my cleaning-OMG! She was scrapping like a fiend! I asked for the water gun thingy and she used that instead. It was so painful! My gums were so sensitive my mouth is so violated! LOL! I was clenching onto the chair so tight I began to shake! A true nightmare. THAT is exactly what I remember the dentist being like.
So I get to the desk to schedule my route canal. I guess you then need a crown and some other fancy thing I dont remember due to the sticker shock of all 3 procedures- over $800 out of my pocket, then MAXING my dental insurance for the year!
I almost cried. I cannot afford that much money-especially before Christmas and with Alexa having alarge possibility of future hospitalizations this winter!
I was like “Why do I need the crown?”-thats the most expensive part. She said after a route canal the tooth is fragile. You dont want to lose your tooth or have it crack.
I said “Its WAY in the back I could care less if it falls out! How much is it to get it pulled?” Get this-$24!~
I said well there ya go! Pull that sucker! Why didnt they tell me that option when I was in the chair I would have saved myself the additional time of an appointment!
So Im getting it pulled.
Wanna know whats even worse! Now the the Novocaine is wearing off Im having shooting pain in my gums and jaw, where before I had NO PROBLEM!
They want to dope me up on meds-but tomorrow Alexa has Chemo! Thanks ALOT!
I HATE THE DENTIST!

Now onto my beautiful card! As I said before-this set ROCKS! Its called Meet me at the Cafe.
Dont you LOVE the Brick front cafe? I do! I used my Fiskars texture platesย to create the brick bkgd, and swiped my white craft pad gently across it. The layer is a frame and is on dimensionals, so the girls are layered behind it.
To use the Fiskars plates in the Cuttlebugย I use the A plate, fiskars plate, cardstock. the Wizard mat, and the B plate.
I colored the girls-with my Copic markers, and use a gelly glaze pen on the wine glasses, and boots.
Cut my Awning, and added the tag. The wide polka dot ribbon is attached with diamond brads!
Thanks for reading, and let me know if you plan on getting this set, cause id LOVE to see your samples with it ๐

I’m so sorry for your dental nightmare. I also hate going to the dentist but suffer thru every 6 months. I get off the chart high blood pressure much to the unhappiness of my doctor. I have honestly debated paying the $30 they charge for gas. Hubby requires it during his fillings. I hope the pain goes away soon. Nothing is worse than mouth pain, at least to me.
Big hugs.
Im so sorry to hear about your time at the dentist. I havent been in 4 years and Im dreading going.
Your making me think I should have bought this set, the cafe and think pink were the two sets I didnt get on release night. Sometimes the headless images look funny to me, but with the awning it looks great.
I also love the heart flourish that is in the set. I saw one of the design members use it stamped in a set of four that connected in the middle and thought it would make an awesome tattoo!
I’ll keep Alexa and your family in my thoughts and prayers while she has her chemo.
Sounds to me like it’s time to find a more gentle dentist.
And as much as you hate the dentist, it’s better to go on a regular basis… the buildup would be much less if you had your teeth cleaned every 6 months.
I had a total fear of the dentist until a few years ago… but then I found an awesome gentle dentist and I don’t mind going in for a cleaning or a procedure.
Ask your friends and the parents at the school… see if any of them have a dentist they’d recommend to someone who is not comfortable with going to the dentist… there has to be someone out there that is better!
You poor wee scone you! I have done a runner from the dentists chair 3 times in the middle of treatment so I soooooooo sympathise LOL! Fabulous cards as always. I’m sending some healing hugs from the UK. Thanks for the great inspirayion time and time again – you ROCK! XXOXOX
awesome cards!!! I can relate on the dentist issue! I too had a root canal, my senior year of high school – about 10 years ago (I’ve been out of high school for over 20) I was finally able to afford to have it finished and have the crown put on! Although my recent visits have been good, I still get nervous days before the appt and dread going!!! I had traumatic childhood dental appts – hence the panic – although now my dentist is much nicer!!! Its just something that never leaves you! Now I have to deal with my wisdom teeth coming in – great! I feel for you…good luck!
Lauren I feel your pain!! I hate the dentist for good reasons!!! I went last year to get a tooth pulled instead of going through what you went through. The dentist who pulled my tooth could be a professional wrestler he is sooo big. Well…let me just tell you when he pulled my tooth I thought he was going to pull my jaw off!! No lie! I was screaming and crying my head off. He lifted me off the chair trying to pull my tooth and I could hear the tooth cracking! That was my last trip to the dentist!LOL!
YIKES! First off – I would find a new dentist…sounds to me like even though you may have had the pain anyway – a good place wouldn’t have let you squirm like that…NO WAY…I wouldn’t go back there…
Yeah – funny about those crowns, right?? I’ve got 2 – then I had to have a root canal in a different tooth – which I should have had crowned, but since the opposing tooth had already been pulled, and half of that toothe is embedded in my gum line, he decided that it would be more painful to me if he did it…so they just keep an eye on it and x-ray it every time I go, to make sure it’s still ok.
Good luck with the other follow up visits, any possibility there is someone elese you can go to??? SERIOUSLY.
Wicked cute card, I LOVE the brick wall – and black and pink is always fab –
Hope you’ve got lots of Advil and the pain subsides..
I feel your pain…I hate the dentist even if its just for a cleaning…I hate when they scrap my teeth!!!!
Ok..on to the Cuttlebug thing….what is a wizard mat? I have always wondered if I could use my Fiskars templates in my CB. The card is adorable by the way!
Make sure pulling the tooth is what you want. Your other teeth will shift and affect your bite. Most people think this happens only to younger patients but it can happen to anyone of any age, even elderly people. I know the money is scary but these are your teeth. You can’t grow more! Just talk it over with the dentist and make sure it’s what you want to do. Good luck!
Your card is awesome! I just ordered that set yesterday!!
OMG I HATE the dentist too…something we have in common….lol
I ‘m sure I have a tooth at the back that needs some major work and I’m going to tell them to just pull that thing too! If they need to put a spacer in so my teeth don’t move then they can do that. It’s still much cheaper than all the work.
I have a lot of silver fillings too. Some dentists want to switch those out to the new white fillings but again…more money to do it….ugh!
Last year at a dental cleaning for Chloe(7 at the time), the dentist said I should see an ortho….get real! Let’s wait til she’s lost more than 5 teeth! haha…this year she saw a pediatric dentist and he didn’t say anything about an ortho app’t….whew!
Hope the work gets done on your teeth and you aren’t in too much pain! Best of luck!
Okay, I’m really embarrassed to admit this but I have had about 11 root canals (probably a few more than that, I stopped counting after 9 years ago) and I currently have about 13 crowns – oh, and one bridge. Some of the crowns I’ve had to redo a couple of times over since I originally had them. I guess I inherited my mom’s soft enamel. She had a lot of teeth problems and now my daughter does.
If you can possibly help it, don’t get a tooth pulled. You still have a lot of years to live with your teeth. Just my opinion, but with the space it leaves, your teeth may shift later. You have such a beautiful smile.
I know, dentists charge wayyyyyy too much, IMO, but your worth it, ya know.
Lauren, I’m so sorry your dentist visit was so bad! After college, I missed going for about 4 years and had several cavities and a couple unpleasant cleanings like yours. However, now I go every 6 months and I haven’t had a new cavity in 2 years. The regular cleanings really do help a lot. I also starting using a Sonicare toothbrush and I think that is just as responsible for my happier dental visits. It seems a little pricey, but is SO worth it! Good luck with the rest of your dental adventures!
Lauren, I am so sorry about your experience at your dental appointment. You should have in no way been in pain during your treatment. It sounds to me like they were trying to get too much done in one appointment. I don’t know if you remember that I told you before that I am a certified and registered dental assistant. If you have any questions you’d like to ask, let me know. I would be happy to help any way I can. Hugs to you!!!
Your card, on the other hand….is very adorable! I love it!! Great job with the brick!
Lauren,
Sorry the dentist was so miserable. Have you looked into sedation dentistry? For something that major I’m amazed that the dentist didn’t suggest it. It’s for people like you who are really scared. I had bad dentist trauma when I was really little. After our dentist killed himself, we got a new dentist who was really good, but I had to have dental therapy, practically, to get over my fear. To this day, I won’t get anything other than a cleaning done without the nitrous gas! Get the gas! It relaxes you so that the Novocaine shots themselves don’t hurt! Totally! I would get a 2nd opinion on your teeth and what pulling the tooth would do. I agree that it would mess up your bite and cause your teeth to shift. I had braces for the 2nd time because my bite was bad and the dentist said that’s part of what keeps your teeth in your head – your other teeth might suffer if that one gets pulled. I also use a Sonicaire toothbrush and find it cleans them better than a regular one. Good luck here, sweetie!
Great cards, too, by the way! LOVE the little elephant one!

Sorry to hear about the trial at the dentist. Not fun, however, if you do go on a regular basis, you will most likely NOT experience these types of visits. Plaque is a nasty thing and its effects multiply over time so the less you have on your teeth the better. Also, it gets worse as you age.
During pregnancy my gums went to pot (I have this wonderful type of saliva that just loves to do a number on my teeth by making plaque when there is sugar in my mouth). I had gingivitis even though I floss my teeth every day!!! Because I didn’t go for a year after my first child – too exhausted etc. — the bones in my jaw that hold my teeth in place have actually receded to about the age of a 60 year old!! Needless to say, I now get my teeth cleaned 3 times a year for preventative maintenance so my teeth won’t fall out and I don’t have to wear dentures!
Most important thing to do is find a dentist you like, are comfortable with and go regularly – sorry, know the “r” word isn’t what you want to hear. You could also treat yourself to the purchase of multiple stamps or something else after each visit ๐ Who knows, one day you may even not mind going – biiiiiiig stretch to even think of right now but it could happen! Also, an electric toothbrush is an excellent investment as they do a great job cleaning your teeth.
Glad to hear
I feel your pain. I’m in a similar situation to yours. No dental insurance for about 10 years. No cavities but I need the whole deep cleaning plus a route canal and a crown, etc. $3000 out of my pocket! AND I’m a single mother so I cannot afford it right now! I think I’m going to check out the financing options once i can afford a portion of it. probably tax time. so I’m with you girl and I hope you feel better.
Yikes! Your dentist sounds scary! Teeth will continue to move even as adults, so make sure you really want that tooth pulled. You can end up with spaces and shifting. (yes my DH and two of my kids see an orthodontist!) Hugs and I’d be looking for a new dentist! The cards are fab! Of course!
So sorry to hear about your dentist nightmare! The cards are great. I love the sets that MFT has to offer. I was thinking about the buy 5 deal, but I’ll have to see.
I agree with Renee V. If you can have the root canals then go for it. They are *not* painful. I realize the cewon is expensive but try an save all of your teeth. You will want to have them when you get older. ๐
Your cards are awesome Lauren. I am hoping that my local stamp store gets them in soon.
Mary
Sorry to hear about the dentist horrors! I’m right there with ya! On a brighter note, I LOVE THE CARD! The brick wall is fab! Super cute!
I had the same scenario about a year ago. Hadn’t been in 10 years. Needed a root canal, totally painful. The kept stopping for more novacaine, because they said it was hard to numb an infected tooth. It was miserable! The only positive out of it is that my BIL is my dentist, so I didn’t have to deal with the bill. Hang in there and when they are done you will be so relieved.
OK I hate the dentist too and was suppossed to get a root canal 2 years ago but have putting it off. I have been thinking pulling it is the cheaper option too. Let me know how wierd it is missing a tooth back there!
low dental insurance rates…
Sometimes, you will get taken aback by the large supply of dental insurance for seniors resources attainable….
I like what you are up to. Such intelligent posts and reporting! Keep up the excellentwork! I have incorporated the blog to my link list. I think it’ll improve the value of my site.
